When I schedule a download, newsgroups, it seems to go constantly.

But when browsing, I keep getting "Page not found" - and I have to keep refreshing for about a minute, then it comes back - 15min later, same problem.

Happens on my laptop, and my wifes laptop, or a terminal session to one of the servers at home (internal session).

This sounds like it might be a DNS or proxy issue. What settings are you using?

Hey AfriMan,

Could you please confirm if there is an issue with downstream packloss. Spoke to ur team earlier and apparently there is some issue that has been happening for a few days, although i only seem to be affected by it today.

Im getting about 20% downstream packet loss, everything checked out at telkom and even tested with another modem

We have only been having an issue to IS sites. For some reason there seems to be intermittent packet loss on traffic to any IS hosted service. We have been working with MTN and IS to restore normal peering services :(

Doesn't look good at all. Latency up and throughput not great at all.

Have run any general diagnostics on your line so I can see what your general latency and pings look like?

Automatic assigned - and again, its only since moving to Afrihost at the beginning of the month.

Downloads run great 90% of the time, but browsing seems to have this issue.

My pings were fine, as was latency.
I was however, having 25% or so packet loss on the line.

It does seem to be isolated to 5pm-10pm-ish, which would indicate high usage somewhere, but it's not reflected in the latency.

This does seem settings related, from the reports. We should really go through all your settings and check if there is anything that shouldn't be there :(

It's possible that there is high usage on the network, but we're not seeing general increases in latency and packet loss across the network. You would see this on all ISP accounts if this were a local or exchange issue :(

Oh, yeah true that. :/

We'll need to run as many diagnostics as we can when it's happening so I can get an idea of what might be happening.

Okies.

Well I just got myself a new router today, just to double-check that it's not router related.

Been having congestion problems since ~11pm last night. I'm on a 4MB line, can barely watch YouTube, and somehow I've downloaded 20GB in the past 17 hours....

/sigh

Again ... international issues.

3708880287.png

Again... line issues;

afrihost_linemeh.jpg

And still zero word of feedback from Afrihost support or Critical Care.
Only the email from them on the 18th August and then silence... not even an acknowledgement of my subsequent email messages.
This was logged with them on the 19th July originally.

There is absolutely zero value in having the line managed by Afrihost. None.

Oh, well, perhaps the line in Telkom's hands again and some assistance from TelkomZA can resolve an issue that Afrihost seems to be happy to ignore.

Holy shoot, my usage just shot up 2GB in 2 hours... wtf is going on... how can I use this much when a YouTube video will barely load.

Best to move your line back to telkom and sort it out yourself hey? I always log a fault online and phone 10210 religiously until they fix it. Touch wood I haven't had a line problem in yonks since they put a new pole from the street on the property.

What line speed is that?

4MB line doing 2GB in 2 hours. I'm surprised because I somehow did all that but can't get a stable 100KBps when streaming :? (or downloading, for that matter, so I don't know where this is coming fom)

EDIT: OK, I am going connect the router but block all outgoing traffic.

I understand your dilema!

I have a 4mb line and when I max it out I can manager 1.5GB/hour!

This is one of the things I don't like about AH (and another ISP) is the delayed stats.

So, before you go any further in accusing the ISP etc, just bear in mind that sometimes the data is delayed (only with AH and another ISP I've used it seems), so you say 2GB in 2 hours, and you were shocked with the usage because you were having such a kuk experience anyway, but I need to ask;

What were you doing the 2 hours before and after?

Sometimes you just have to average things, then they make sense (doesn't mean I agree with them because if other SP's can do it, why can't they do it!?).

Indeed.

Will be doing just that.
