Gaming ping near double, people teleporting is so fun. Can't watch a youtube video on 360p on a 4mbps line. It's only 6pm and you guys stated peak demand at 7.

Been mostly good all day. But started deteriorating at 6pm.

<sarcasm>Obviously, all those pesky IOS8 updaters suddenly decided en masse to update at 6pm on a Saturday.</sarcasm>

Sigh getting less than 200kb/s download speed on my capped account (10mb line speed).

This is pathetic.

I left on Afrihost on Friday evening, have had no problems since changing, even went back to check if their connection was still poor and it was. Can't play games as the latency is to high, cant download at the given line speed even on popular torrents whilst I can on other ISPs. Sad week for Afrihost they went from hero to zero. No more ISP of the year.

My Afrihost experience is generally pretty stable.
I reported issues here on Friday evening - local was maxing out at approx. 3mbps and international at around 1.8mbps.
This situation resolved very late on Friday evening and my line was running fine.

Situation yesterday was fine.

Situation today is that local is fairly good - maxing our at 7mbps slightly below the typical 8mbps but ok.
International is a problem though. It's maxing out consistently at 3mbps. So there appears to be a problem with international.

Any feedback on this Afrihost? See the network status is increased DSL demand... since 10:02, 18 Sep 2014!!!!
Come on guys. An open problem situation for 3 days! We need to know when this going to be rectified.

Oh... and by the way connectivity to www.afrihost.com is taking MEGA LONG!!!
Other sites are pretty responsive.

Rgds,
SD.

Hi Guys

Just posting a general message in all the threads before I start going through all the threads. Seems like a few people are reporting speeds are getting back to normal. I really do appreciate the patience. I know many of you were very frustrated, reading through the posts, and I can totally understand that as well.

We're continuing to monitor on our side, and we have more network management software rollouts which should take effect in the next day or so. We're definitely aware of the impact this has had on clients and it's a serious matter to us. We'll see how demand behaves now during peak business hours and see if we need to make further adjustments to assure the best overall experience for clients.

Thanks for the update Afriman! So are you confirming that IPC is not the issue, since you are not looking into that area?

Well, it's maybe not correct to say that. If we added more IPC, the problem would go away. But we're maintaining a delicate balance between keeping our overheads as low as possible, so that we can maintain current pricing, since we subsidise our bandwidth. We believe the tightening up our network management and shape what should be shaped (let less slip through the AUP) then we could provide the right level of performance without substantially increasing upstream costs, which will ultimately affect our clients in the long term.

If it comes to an IPC upgrade, then that is something we will consider if that is the appropriate course of action.

I used to get a similar speed, then went to another isp where my line maxed at 6.8 down and now that I am back with afrihost its the same at 6.8. I am not complaining because it is very stable. Just wondering why that would be?

Keep up the lekker work afripeople.

Mine has been fine since late Friday afternoon.

Stable here since last Friday. Had a few minutes of high ping in Diablo 3 but it didn't last long.

And I am still being routed via Johannesburg IPC and back to Cape Town.
I cannot understand what could be so difficult for MTN to contact SAIX/IPNET and get the there routing tables updated and sorted out!

Have you chatted to AfriMan about this? I remember (I think) him briefly chatting about this issue last week sometime?
One or two of our clients had previously seen this too and the mis-config for routing was from Telkom's end :(

No, I was one of them, and the issue has never been resolved... I still route via JHB as well, also on a new ESR. Telkom also indicated at the time that this is an MTN routing issue.
