From Kyle: "Please note that I have just re-logged a fault with Telkom as this problem does reside on your Telkom ADSL line."

Let's hope they fix the damn thing for good:mad:

*bump* :D
(Oi! No one ever seems to have problems with their capped packages, so I'm posting here to make sure Afri<person> visits here now and then)

Telkom dude worked on the lines outside our property on Monday, but still having random slow speeds on odd occasions and random disconnects at times.

And that was after I received an SMS from Telkom on Saturday to say the line has been restored, to which I replied "No".....

I am communicating with Kyle. Telkom, what is so difficult in fixing a line? Surely your Techs can actually do the job they are paid to do?

I've had a bit of a sad time getting our normal analog line converted to ADSL recently.

The request was sent around the end of last month. The line went dead for a few days after and stayed like that for quite a while.

(There was talk of network outages etc?) Anyway, after a bit of a support struggle, we have dial tone back but no ADSL sync.

I must say I'm a bit frustrated as things must look mostly OK from the Afrihost side but I still have had no joy getting things running.

After a couple of support calls and testing of a different telephone point and different modems/ routers, I'll hopefully have a Telkom tech around some time...

Can the Afrihost rep. advise please? Maybe there is a network outage or my DSLAM port is half dead? I can p.m. details if needed.

Line has been literally dead the whole morning. I have rebooted countless times with no luck. Router shows it is syncing at 7Mb, but it is a joke.

I have no idea what Telkom did, but it did not fix any issues. The line is still as unstable as it was before.

At least they're working towards a resolution on this :)

Sorry to hear this :(
We haven't seen any outages on our side recently - so we'll need to have a look at your line individually. There may be an issue with the copper running to your house, if there is no dial tone chances are getting an ADSL won't be easy.

Drop me a PM with your account info and any relevant ticket references numbers you might have and I'll have a look at this on my end.

LOL - we've always got lots of love for our Capped clients :)

But happy to see no-one is having problems though :)

I don't think this is a copper issue as dial done was restored recently. This seems to be related to the ADSL service on the line.

I'll pm you the details and would really appreciate it you could have a look. Thanks!

We should be able to get a better idea once I have your info :) We'll take it from, I'm sure we can get things sorted out!

Holy exchange congestion Batman!

I think a lot of their people are hoping that upgrades over the next few months will sort out a few of their problems. Hard to say though :(

Remember that you use two separate exchanges for DSL and POTS service - so a faulty cable (one-legged) could still deliver normal telephony service while DSL is affected or even vice versa. Judging by the poor state of copper cables in many areas, this is always a very likely issue :(

I have been having issues with afrihost now for the last month there customer care service is bad... 3 days i have been trying to call and they don't answer my calls they don't reply to my mails. I am busy looking at other ISP. In the day my internet speed is fine but as soon as night time comes i can't even download a 4Mb file... Takes like 5min. If i am lucky i do get on Google. I use my internet at night as i work during the day and game at night. But for the last month or more i had to use 3G as my ADSL SUCKS... My line syncs at 4Mb and really i do not know what to do or move forward.... :(

In a gotomeeting right now and it's quite bad. First time it's bad in months though and can still follow more or less, but it got me wondering if Afrihost sees gotomeeting traffic as VOIP and prioritises it like skype and others then?

Edit: Suddenly perfect again, one of the many devices on wifi must have decided to download some updates or something. Question about gotomeeting priority still stands though.
