Anyone have issues browsing lately? Every couple of minutes, say 15 - my browser just drops connection, immediately saying all pages are unavailable for about 30 seconds, then it comes back.

Trace route looks like so:
Code:

Your second hop should not be over 30ms, so I would guess that this could either be exchange congestion or a line fault :(

It got sorted yesterday after I called the number... I can't exactly sit and type on MyBB when I'm on duty.
Apparently my SIM was the issue.

Something I love about Vodacom or Telkom. When I TWEET them an issue on Twitter, they call me...

Our social media team does their best to call clients where they can, but it's not really practical for a small team. They do manage to resolve most queries that come through them though.

Have been doing some heavy downloading today. Not a single glitch so far. Everything running as expected, at full line speed, and have been connected to my AH capped account for 06Days 17hrs 06min 39sec according to my router, and only had about three VPN drops on my laptop this week. Am in Cape Town / Melkbos.

Sorry others are still having some hassles, but would like to thank Afrihost. My capped account is working very well thank-you.

Phaedrus

Awesome, glad to hear that you're having a great experience :)

I think we can rule out weather problems. It's been 100% clear the entire day so far and when I got home this afternoon the line just didn't perform well. Slow speeds, 300ms ping to local server (pinged Dota 2 server, usually get ~30ms).

Oddly, it worked fine yesterday afternoon and I thought the problem had disappeared. I think it also worked this morning as I don't recall any major problems. However, right now the line is definitely not working as expected.

If it works well at some points of the day, we can eliminate anything policy or shaping related, as this would be consistent whenever you tested. So we basically need to see what could be different at those different times of day :(

So internet was fine last night only after midnight. Terrible right now, since ~9am.

Anways, here is my traceroute:

I'm no expert on these traceroute outputs, but that high latency on the second line doesn't look very promising (neither do those stars).

This looks like severe congestion to me. If the exchange is congested (depending on your settings) it will timeout on the ping packets :(

DSL syncs. Athenticates in seconds. Connection is so slow that most websites timeout. Afrihost website took 5 minutes to open (10Mbps line) Pretoria, Waterkloof area. My connection is so slow I am posting this from my CellC as I gave up. Are there any major lines down? or any planned maintenance in the area?

There was an issue in Pretoria. I think it was due to Telkom exchange upgrades in the area.

Weird. I've never had any problems before. Been using this line for almost 6 months with literally zero problems, now suddenly this :( So who gets priority when there is congestion?

The problem is nobody gets priority, so it 's the luck of the draw who's traffic goes through and who's gets stuck in the queue or packets timeout. Generally it's a pretty horrible experience for everybody :(

Afriman, need help here. I am currently on 4mpbs line, capped and doing around 250 to 270gig a month, am 59+ but downloading is in my blood, regretfully only wants to do it at night after 19h00 and over weekends my x box keeps me busy the remaining time (single shooter) AH does not allow only "after hours" like the others do. What do you suggest? always regarded your opinion with high regard

Thanks for the compliment :)

I'm not sure if I have the right answer. Sounds like capped is a good solution for you. We don't have a bolt-on option like some of our competitors do, though we do offer the turbocharge feature on Uncapped which allows you to bypass shaping whenever you want to download, etc.

I'm a big fan of capped accounts myself, cos it also means that I don't have to worry about matching line speed to an uncapped account :)

Nevermind I just got a sms saying my upgrade was completed :)

Seems to be working fine today and last night. Lets hope the congestion fixes itself (get off the line, people!). Thanks for the help everyone :)

Whats going on today?
