Ok so quite a few people from across the country complain that Afrihost's down speed is much worse than other ISP's during the same time. Are they still going to say it isolated? What is the cause of this??

I think us in W Cape got a IPC downgrade with the AfriHost "upgrade" to
compensate the rest of the country. It so sucks.

Of COURSE network status is green - no problems. WTF!

This, my YouTube kept dropping to 144p at about 6:30pm, gave up at 7:15. I like being able to make out people's faces if they are less than a meter from the camera.

One wonders why on Afrihost Youtube buffers on 240p...

Yet can on Axxess;

No buffer, no dropped frames... perfectly watchable.

This time I think the mybroadband speed test is playing up:

View attachment 165895

Web Pages are loading fine and I was streaming ok just an hour ago so that result can't be correct.

I will try again later but so far it feels like this afternoons load balancing has helped.

Here is a better representation:

Let's hope it holds.

Definitely odd. Remember that any speedtest is dependant on the network traffic at the data centre and the load on the server, so there is always the possibility that the test could misreport based on those factors.

Still having shocking speeds in the north! http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3898855261

40mb line. Still working fine on WA.

Definitely horrible. We'll need to look into this, it seems like the North was taking heavy demand, and this seems to be since we made our last round of changes & updates. Our team are looking at how this could have affected overall network performance.

The changes made we traffic signature updates to better shape Uncapped accounts, as well as general network management improvements.

Ag nee man..Trying to download the latest NVidia GFX driver and it doing so ay snails pace.

This is unacceptable for a 40Mbps connection.

Now really getting fed up with the service delivery from Afrihost. First, months of issues with the IPC and being patient and now speed is like being on a 512kbps connection.

Definitely really terrible for a 40Mbps line :(

I totally appreciate how patient you have been waiting for the IPC to be upgraded. I promise we're doing everything we can on this side to pin this down and get performance to where it should be :(

Well if last night was shocking tonight is just so totally a waste of time for streaming i'm gobsmacked speechless!
US Robotics 56k in the garage somewhere probably better.

Funny I tried my Axxess account and it was 95% better so it's not MTN.
Not as good as OW but you could live with it.

Cape Town Pineland exchange.

Axxess work on different systems to us, but on a different backbone. Generally the experience is similar, but it depends on the nature of the issues we experience. I think we do need to make some improvements which will make he network overall perform much better for both us and them, but they may be affected differently or to a lesser extent due to their size or location of the majority of their clients.

Hmmm... speedtests and pingtests seem to think I am in Pretoria... I have to manually select my CT location each time.

Geolocation Information
Country: South Africa za flag
State/Region: Gauteng
City: Pretoria
Latitude: -25.7069 (25° 42′ 24.84″ S)
Longitude: 28.2294 (28° 13′ 45.84″ E)

EDIT:

Switch to Axxess - knows my CT location.
Switch to WebAfrica - knows my CT location as does my Connection account.

Switch back to Afrihost - still seems to think I am in PTA.

I looked at a trace route and I could see you were being routed via the South, so I don't think we're misallocating you're traffic.

I can look further into this for you, but it's most likely something to do with Speedtest's geolocation features.
