Any ETA when the uncapped accounts will be sorted in CTN ?

I know this has been discussed already but I still can't download Windows 8 - still getting the message that it is not available in this country. I have read all the threads arguing whether it is Afrihost's fault or Microsoft's fault but the long and the short of it is I pay to be able to download and in this case I can't and it looks like I will have to purchase bandwidth from another ISP to get this download.
Afriman - any suggestions as to how I can download this?

We have been in constant contact with Microsoft, who in turn it is an issue with Arvato (who are their distributors). We did have a workaround which we put in place to bypass this issue for our clients convenience.

You can email me on [email protected] (my PM inbox is a bit of a nightmare right now) and I'll get our support guys to guide you through options available :)

We gave up on our AH 50 GB capped account. It's useless. Switched to our backup WA account and all is fine.

We want a refund for this POS. Not three months free! Money back!

Take out an Openweb 3gig trial account

@ afriman
thanks for that, I will drop you an e-mail.
@Ol' Mean Bastid
yep that's one way - problem is I might like Openweb too much and not come back ;)

Thank you so much, it is much, much better today. Its been stable since last night.

Our office is in Technopark Stellenbosch and the performance of Afrihost capped is unbearable, constant time outs, immense packed loss. This after a few months back of going through this as well on the IS network. We are switching to a Cape Town based ISP

Capetonian here. I've got a 6MB 30GB capped account and a 4MB uncapped account with Afrihost and for a few days after the MTN switch things seemed to run ok. However, performance is on and off these days, currently getting around 512kb/s down on my uncapped account and around 2MB on capped account (with a 6MB line). We can barely use the uncapped account anymore and we actually don't torrent at all, simply lots of Youtube and Reddit and games (no TV you see :P). By the end of November I will be making a move somewhere else as well, probably only with the uncapped account though. I really love Afrihost and I hope they manage to sort out their issues, I'll probably return when the issues are sorted out next year.

bit off topic , do you have 10mb lines there? i have a client there with 2x 4mb lines , with great lines stats , but no 10mps yet and i really need that faster lines for the client :(

we applied for neotel fiber , still waiting etc.

We also have great stats, attainable rate is 12mb but max we get is 4mb in the area.

Seems to me that MTN are using session monitoring equipment on the afrihost Capped ADSL packages. When my wife is gaming, her connection is terminated about every 20 minutes. This is typical of session monitoring, as it assumes a connection that doesn't have an active session can be terminated. This sort of monitoring is common on uncapped packages, but is not what I would expect when paying the extra for a capped package.

Fortunately, that sort of monitoring is easily fooled by visiting a web page with an auto refresh ajax script on it, such as http://www.jquery4u.com/demos/auto-refresh-div-content/, which fools the session monitoring equipment into thinking there is an active HTTP session. What always confuses me is why this sort of monitoring only ever checks the HTTP and FTP traffic, given that Afrihost prioritize gaming traffic on the network, you'd think MTN would also use that traffic to indicate an active session.

Note I'm not talking about the ADSL connection being terminated here, just about something on the network that sends RST packets to connections that it thinks are inactive.

That sounds like a firewall closing established connections on idle. Are you running through a firewall?

There is no firewall on my side causing any sort of problem I can assure you. The problem is with Afrihost. The only firewall I have prevents incoming connections on the router. In addition, this is using the same PC and playing the same games that have not suffered from these issues for the past year. But as soon as the move to MTN happened, along came this issue.

Also, if we switch the router to use Plugg instead of Afrihost, the issue goes away.

Dear Afriman and afrihost , I love ur company and the adsl, I don't however love the mtn move at all , my latency has doubled and sometimes tripled , my line is showing weird spikes and lags and I get 4-5 second timeouts when playing online. All symptoms started the day of the switchover.

Hi Guys

Afrihost still working on DC's as we speak. Thanks for your patience

Ag no man AH :( :( I get disconnected every few minutes :( I can't surf or anything :( :( What is going on!!!
