Afrihost capped ADSL problems

I do have your details and we'll get someone to give you a buzz and look into this. I'm not sure about the myriad of complaints though, we're generally getting very positive feedback on the network performance.

I've said this a few times, indexing your speeds based on torrents is not a realistic indicator. Torrents are affected by a range of external factors, many of which you can not really get answers to. Does the seeder have the complete file? Is his upload throttled or at what speed has he limited his uploads? The number of seeders is not a real indication of speeds your will receive :(

See, this response right here sums up the sheer frustration that one has to go through with Afrihost staff due to their sheer refusal to either read, listen or accept that there is a friggin problem! By myriad of complaints, I am referring to my own.

1. I am sure that I have mentioned, a dozen times already, that the problem with torrents is happening across, 1. multiple computers in my home, 2. across multiple torrents, across multiple http links.

2. This problem has nothing to do with seeders and everything to do with Afrihost not being able to provide a useable service.

3. I am not the only person complaining about the Afrihost service at the moment and these particular issues. Have you read the forums lately? These problems appear to be extended to the Axxess offering as well! Look at the utter nonchalance Leepage had to deal with in this very thread for instance.

4. I reiterate a very important and pertinent fact here! During my two year stay with Mweb I never had a SINGLE issue with my line despite them managing it. I only started experiencing problems after you started managing my line.

5. Telkom have been out to my home on numerous occasions and haven't found any problems with my line, nor has the Telkom monitoring team in Pretoria. In fact they identified the constant line disconnects as an authentication issue on your side!

6. There is nothing wrong with my routers. The problem can be replicated across three routers, a fact one of your Afrihost staff observed.

Please don't let me repeat all of this again. It would literally be the tenth time that I've had to do this to both yourself and other Afrihost staff! The only reason im still stuck on this product is because I forgot to cancel at the end of the month. Entering the 3rd month and my problems STILL cannot be resolved! Unreal!!!

What line speed do you normally sync at?
I'd be happy to take a look at your account for you :)

If you say the connection has been fine throughout today and then starts dropping could be related to a congested exchange, but can't be sure - and I'm just speculating at this stage.
Drop me a PM and we can take a look at things.

Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, back in January just after we got ADSL, 10Mb was the norm. No issues at all and no problems. But lately is has gotten pretty bad.
Now if the house phone rings, the ADSL connection dies...just happened again a few minutes ago. And this has been happening since last night. Ringing phone = dead connection.

Will send a PM later.

Edited to add. Phone call ended and connection came back and now syncing at 6703kb/s. Weird stuff happening on this line. Must be spooks somewhere causing issues.

Afriman synced the line at a lower speed last week and all was fine with no issues, but the last few days has been frustrating. I reckon Hellscum techs are doing "maintenance" or whatever they do.

Aha! I had that problem a year a go or so!!!!!!!!! bad connection where my line connects to Telkom line in the junction box in my wall! All corroded !!!!!! Telkom cleaned it up, smiled at me and said "it was their side" other wise I would have had to pay!
I am not saying it is YOUR problem as well but I would check all joints carefully, it was difficult to spot.

Hi afriman. A member from your call centre once mentioned it to me that uncapped accounts are throttled

We don't throttle any accounts.
The only account that is shaped is our Home Uncapped. Business Uncapped and all Capped products are unshaped 24/7.

Sorry about the incorrect details that were passed on.

Hi bursty dude. PM me your ADSL cct number and mobile so I could test your line and give you feedback.

Afrihost 10MB 100GB Bundle Update:

So Telkom came out to my home, for the third time and confirmed, for the third time, that there is 100% no issue with my line or the exchange that i am going through and stated that I should be downloading at 10MB without any problems as nothing is preventing me from doing this on the Telkom side. The technician advised that they are having numerous issues with Afrihost referring these kinds of issues through to Telkom at the moment only for them to get to the premises and find out that there isn't a problem with the line or the exchange, confirming what most of us have suspected when browsing through different ISP's.

Can anyone on the forums using the 10MB 100GB option please advise what download speeds you are getting and whether you have ever gotten close to at least a stable 8MB consistently?
