Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

It was an issue for about an hour. Started just before my earlier comment. Using MyBB's speed test, I was getting like 150ms. Ping to bras was 20ms so it was definitely your end. BTW, Afriguy never responded to my DM from like a week ago. Telkom did their check and everything about 2 days ago and to no one's surprise, found no issue.

I'll follow-up with AfriGuy.

Has your latency returned to normal?

Can I send you a test account to try out?

Sure no problem mate.
Everything during the day is perfect. I'll test tonight with other accounts as well

EDIT - I've tested with my WebAfrica account, my normal Afri Account, and even resorted to my AfriGreen Account.
I get absolutely ZERO issues on a WebAfrica account. I can still stream with my latency never going above 210.

Using Afrihost at night is really irritating and pathetic. This is an ongoing problem, and no one can give us any answers. These issues are the same on which i PM'd AfriGuy on the 9th of this month. My line has been tested multiple times, with cables and even routers being replaced.

I've just PM'ed you the test account details, can you please try it out tonight and let me know how it compares.

Anyone else experiencing 100% packet loss - only on internet banking websites while trying to access via Afrihost as ISP. All of them.

Access to other sites in SA show no packet loss.

Cape Town east, Capped, unshaped account.

Anybody else struggling with intermittent connections in Cape Town?

Getting frequent disconnects whole morning

That is really not good to hear. :( Are you seeing full disconnections on your router or is your speed just slow?

Normally most banking platforms will drop most forms of traffic for security reasons. :)

Looks like a line issue... Telkom sending out a technician to see what's up.

The line's up and running...just since Friday we get frequent disconnects between 9am to 12 daily but all seems fine for the rest of the day

I think @pexxie hit the nail on the head. Afrihost has gone downhill since liquid telecom.

Just look at this latency and dodge routing...

Hmmm.... those tests don't look good at all. We have done some testing a few nights ago with Vumatel Fibre and Openserve fibre and we got averages of 172ms to 185ms to uk and other euro servers so it is very odd that you are seeing these results.

We would probably need to do troubleshooting to see why you are getting these results. Please could you send me a PM with your account information so I can see if there is anything happening on your account and we can perform some tests there.

Could I please ask for some clarification and help.
Last week we upgraded our ADSL line and yesterday I put in a new VDSL modem. Contacted Afrihost this morning to have the modulation set to VDSL and it synced at 20mbps down & 5.1mbps up.
We are on the 40mbps line so the guy said he'll request that it gets increased and it should resync later in the day.

I see now it's syncing at 32mbps down but the upstream dropped to 3mbps...

Talking to Afrihost support via live chat, the guy says

The upload it set at the exchange it is not like the download it will sync at what ever the download it so if the line is syncing at 30mbps then the upload will be 3mbps[sic]

:unsure::confused:... ...
To which I reply
"This morning it was syncing at 20mbps down and 5.1 up"???
Then he says
Then it should not have been syncing at 5mbps and that is why it re-adjusted

In Oct 2017 Openserve start giving higher max upload speeds, i.e. why we got 20mbps down and 5 up this morning.
Now I'm just struggling to get better upload speeds with the current 32mbps line as the Afrihost support guy says it's fine as it's supposed to be 10% of the downstream rate...

1. Am i wrong in assuming this guy is wrong and I should be able to get more upload speed?
2. How can actually go about getting my upload speed increased as the guy I spoke to closed the chat after saying "We are awaiting their response" talking about Telkom? Live chat might have time out cause this was after like an hour and 10 minutes of waiting for feedback

Hi there, randomly today I cant access certain websites such as twitter or I get dropped from pubg/steam. Anyone else experiencing this?

When it comes to ADSL and VDSL services we don't really guarantee an upload speed. As these services asymmetric. We normally aim for at least 8% to 12% upload speed from the respective download speed.

There is also something else that need to be considered, since you are now syncing at a higher speed. The decibels on your SNR for download will be a lot higher. This means a certain part of your up link SNR will suffer too. This means your upload will automatically be synced down. (As mentioned your upload speed isn't guaranteed.)

Honestly speaking, if you get more upload speed than normal it is a bonus. This doesn't mean I am not going to try and get the line synced higher for you. Please send me a PM with your number and I will see what I can do for you. :)

That sounds horrible. :( There wasn't any issues on our side that we are aware of. Are you still having issues on your side?
