Afrihost cloud down again, and again, and again, and again.

Thank for the updates Afriman. Our server is back online but now we are battling with MySQL issues and database corruption.

Hopefully the services will stabilise enough for us to try and resolve the current database issues and get our clients back online.

Met with Bruce from their Sales division yesterday only to find out that Cloud environments are their future. A pretty bleak future, i would say at that. How about this for an impressive set of stats. My one server is still down.

We've removed the data store entirely, so this should not happen again. Ironically, this started becuase we were implementing additional disaster recovery measures to our data storage :(

As far as I know, server that have been migrated from the store have not gone down since.

Cloud is definitely the future. It's not just us saying so, you might have read about Amazon pipping Google out of a lucrative contract to provide Cloud Servers to the CIA, etc. Our team also goes to Hostcon every year and that's where Cpanel/WHM and all our partners are looking. When everything works, the cost to benefit ratio far exceeds physical servers. We're already seeing a huge trend in racks becoming a thing of the past. A cloud server can literally be anything you want it to be.

We're still going to push hard in this direction. Whatever hurdles we face now, we're confident that this is where the future of hosting lies and we'll need to be at the forefront to remain competitive in the hosting game.

Wow! Ours isn't that bad fortunately. I use Uptime Robot for two web applications on two cloud servers and the up time is at about 75%.

75% on a cloud server is still a joke. People have better uptime hosting websites on ADSL with dynamic DNS.

Ok, so I'm not a expert on this, but sure someone will be able to advice me.

My Could server with Afrihost package 3CPU, but when ever I go above 1CPU its showing a red flag on the WHM panel.

I moved to a reseller package with domains.co.za with 8CPU that cost me about 40% of the Afrihost price , and it never goes red, even if it does goes higher than 1, 2 or 3. (Average the server is running average .3 CPU - we managed to move our high volume domains over last Friday night before they went down again. Basically have one domain that uses 50% of all my resources that run with domains.co.za this week. Lucky me... he he)

-Should the "Flag" not go red if it goes higher than your package CPU?

I had endless problems with Afrihost regarding CPU usage and they basically got me to upgrade every second month to a higher package. Now that I'm basically running all my sites (last 11 still to transfer) to 1 x reseller server everything runs 100%. Never had this performance/speed that I can actually record before.

Does this sound correct? I know we going to take another reseller package with them to split elearning sites especially now that its costing us so cheap and their service is actually very good.

Are the server's still down?

My server is completely dead and absolutely no assistance from AfriHost.

Surely during a major inscident like this, AfriHost should keep their support lines open?

Seriously AfriHost? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Our support team are still available on email, live chat and by SMS. If you can PM me the server name, I'll log an urgent request for you :(

Afriman - not everyone knows the meaning of PM = Private Message - and if you don't have your profile setup correctly you wont get email notification, so I would suggest - post a email, contact number and a URL to the live chat. (not that the chat is actually working). Most of the time you don't even see the 'notification" icon on the top for new messages.

I'm not a IT expert and also had some real difficulties when I subscribed to this forum. Maybe update your signature with some PERSONALIZED contact details. Obviously people who subscribe on this forum is not your every day customer - they "mean business".

Note: Sometimes the Chat closes quickly and other times it will wait long for someone to accept the chat. I dont mind holding, but HATE IT when it say "online" and I must constantly complete the form to start a new chat if no-one respond after 1min......... Just a suggestions.

EZ

I reply to all my PM's (private messages pretty much daily) and I do get a mail notification whenever a new PM comes in which is shared between AfriGuy, AfriGirl and myself, so PM's will never go unanswered. I also have a pretty simple email address which is [email protected]. You also click on my avatar and either send me a private message or send me an email, which I respond to usually pretty quickly. I don't this has ever been an issue :)

Afrihost man, sent you a PM and no reply? Server is still down?!!??!?!

Good luck with getting your server back up and running, I mean it. I moved to Afrihost a month ago, so I am still in there 60 day money back BS. However, the amount of clients I have lost will take me about 2 years to recoup the losses. My advise. Move ASAP as they will not accept any responsibility or liability.
I am livered, embarrassed and out of pocket

connorlong, agreed. I have already arrranged a new hosting server which is up and running and serving clients so I am slightly out the of the deep waters, but not entirely.
Is there no way we can get our server's hard drive from AfriHost copied onto a external HDD and atleast have the data??
I too am embarrassed and shocked, I mean what more can you tell your client's then "I am working on it"?

I doubt it. I am finding that some of my websites are missing and some non responsive. I had almost 200 accounts, a lot less to worry about thanks to Afrihost. But trying to pick up the pieces. Clients I have known for years are wanting to hold me responsible for loss of business.
Commercial Sales Contacts in progress: R140mil
Civil: R18mil - Tender not submitted Friday afternoon
BNB/Hot: R27K loss in booking
Telecoms: Claim have lost 50% of business
List goes on...

I am noticing a slow down in response on my server at the moment. I hope it is just a wave and nothing more.

You lucky you getting a response from yours. Mine is still completely dead. Good luck man!

You must check the status of your server in the clientzone and see if you cannot reboot yourself.

Yesterday morning they told me constantly they rebooting it but I could see through the clientzone its still running, so I given the guys on the helpdesk a hard time. Told them to stop bssssss me and they quickly sorted it out.
