Enterprise Cloud hosting down. 13 Hours now and this is the response
"
We're having a problem at MTN mainly with the virtual Environment. We're on this right now to make sure our downtime is as little as possible.

We are really sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Nothing will ever beat the Jan/Feb 2014 incident. I had a server down for about 1 week. The best was an answer to a question regarding when can I log into server to get some file i needed off it : Maybe Saturday we are not sure , it was Tuesday.
 
Ag, it depends at the end of the day how much your website is worth to you. Having a personal website with a small number of traffic is okay to host locally.

If you do have serious website generating a substantial income and large number of traffic, you do its hosting in a country with the required technology, infrastructure and experience. Not in a third world country which are still years behind the technology, infrastructure and experience. Besides, the first world countries with the requirements of hosting a website offer these services at a fraction of the price South Africa can.

I do host other sites in the US, UK and Netherlands and the uptime over the past 3 years is 100%.

Yes, I had a website with Hostgator and had a 100% uptime for 5 years and 4 months - and I have tracking scripts installed on all my dedicated servers to monitor uptime.

I simply do not host locally. Our industry are not ready as yet. They do not have the technology, experience or infrastructure the Western countries have at this time.

Like I said, if you are serious about your websites, you will stay away from all local hosting providers. Rather go abroad, they are more reliable in offering quality hosting services at a fraction of the price here in SA.

Can't say I agree with all of what you say.

SA hosting does have the technology.
SA hosting does have the experience and a lot of of the infrastructure.

What however is different, when SA hosting has to compete with international hosting on cost level. You can get exactly the same type of hosting uptime in SA that you would internationally, the difference is...you will have to pay A LOT more. Most South Africans just don't have that luxury however, and as such, they choose international hosting to get the same reliability for lower cost.

Sorry, but cannot agree with you, however, I do agree with the pricing aspect.

I hosted many sites here in SA, with all local hosting providers. Moved all my sites from them abroad, as the downtime with them all were horrible.

I have yet to find a local hosting provider that can offer a 1 year uninterrupted hosting service.
 
25 Hours still down !
And I can now say with confidence that Afrihost do not have 24/7 support as stated on their website. Weekdays till 10 PM, week ends till 3 PM. If something goes wrong they just leave it for the next day.
 
Really shockingly poor service. Currently advising all our clients unfortunate enough to be hosted at Afrihost to move their hosting ASAP.
