Afrihost explains ADSL problems

The MTN HSDPA on my phone gives better ping times then most of your Afrihost ADSL speed tests...

Wow, I've never seen one person cry so much before, keep jumping ISP's when they give you a few small issues, I'm sure you enjoy that.

As for my feedback, I didn't even know there were issues, I mean, I've not experienced any for the past <Insert Afrihost join date here>. I've always had a good experience with Afrihost, they've never let me down, in fact, I've never needed to deal with their support crew either because I've never had an issue and I still don't. Thanks for the awesome internet experience Afrihost!
I'm trying to follow. You're saying 'stop whinging, I haven't had any issues with Afrihost'? I don't think they're whinging about your line or experience :p

Afrihost - Any chance getting the Cape Town IPC up-and-running before the festive season? Otherwise I will be forced to cancel my account.

It is very unlikely that this will be possible, but we are hoping that the JHB IPC upgrade and Telkom backhaul improvements can be made before then. We will inform all of our clients when these take place.

I was seriously considering converting to Afrihost but after reading about this debacle and lack of contingencies in their planning, I’ve canned the idea.

Hi Franna

At the moment this is unfortunately looking unlikely. However, we will pull off our own skin to try and see whether this can't be done faster.

The Cape Town latency issue is something we know we have to fix ASAP

Thanks

Gian

Hi gconey

Sorry to have potentially lost you.

I hope that future glowing reports will one day make you consider moving again!

Keep well

Gian

downloaded ubuntu 12.10 server amd64 iso from SAIX host last night on a 4mb uncapped line. Maxed out @ 57KB/s

what a joke

Currently doing a test and did 72MB in 8 minutes on my 2MB line, getting 207K/s when I don't have any background process, else it drops to 165K/s when my browser does background updates(Gmail, twitter, AJAX calls, etc).

The net also feels much quicker tonight, less lag.

Net's miles better for me tonight, can actually stream radio and work

One of the problems seems to be that they can't limit the speeds on the uncapped accounts when they are running on faster lines:

As you can see from the graph my axxess 2Mb uncapped has been running at almost line speed since Monday but was performing correctly over the weekend.

Feedback from Afrihost Account department in the mail I sent them is that I will be refunded for this month on my uncapped account. Still waiting to see if that is going to happens. 10 days to tell.

I moved to Openweb as well for my main account. Still need to move my mom's account.

My connection appears to have improved somewhat. Getting ~170 kB/s on transfers, up from ~7 kB/s over the last 2 days. Still some ways of full line speed (4M line so expecting ~400 kB/s), but large improvement nonetheless.

OK, they sorted that problem out, I now seem to be throttled to 1.6Mbps since the above post which, on a 6Mb line, is lousy; I'm used to getting just over 2Mbps on the old axxess and TI 2Mb uncapped accounts.

As the torrent problem I was having on my TI accounts seems to have been resolved (using TI capped as a yardstick) I guess I'll be returning to TI uncapped as of December.

Is there any problems regarding email? I spoke to my dad earlier today and he asked when am I going to send him the info he needs (via email) and I responded but I already sent it over an hour ago. He then said he sent about 20 emails yesterday and got no response as well, where as they usually respond quick. Obviously the last part can be that they didn't reply yet. So I'm just quickly throwing it out and asking. If there's problems that tech's are aware of then I understand. Otherwise will phone support...
