I emailed my ID (as a jpeg) to them using Gmail just over an hour ago. Then I received a reply from "Peter" saying I had sent it in a corrupt format and he asked me to send him a jpg, tif, or a pdf. I wasn't sure if it was me so I went ahead and downloaded the attachment form Gmail to check if I had uploaded it wrong. It downloaded perfectly. I went ahead and printed it to pdf just to be sure and uploaded both the jpeg and pdf. Half an hour ago I received a reply from "Keenan" on behalf of "Peter" saying the he also cannot open the file because it is called index.php .Did Gmail change the way in which they send attachments or does Afrihost not know how to supply their employees with proper mail clients/web browsers or training?

I'm trying out their 24 hour support and am currently waiting for the callback. I will post the results here.

it's funny since everyone else's worked fine?

can you zip it up?

Ha ha so many people on here desperate to knock Afrihost

And each one feels the need to start their own special thread about it. Try getting an issue resolved by Telkom at 9:50 on a Sunday evening. You'd be extremely lucky to get any sort of response!

Gmail error? It's called sarcasm. I've been using Gmail for over 2 years with no one ever complaining about not knowing how to open attachments. They're probably using a crappy download manager or email client.

Well then best you don't join them! They are obviously crap and apparently they fail anyway.

Very poor choice of title there buddy. You should be more careful until you know exactly what is going on.

Try putting the ID in several different formats or try sending it from a different e-mail account, or uploading it temporarily to a file hosting site like Quickshare (and then delete it after). Afrihost has processed several thousand of these IDs in the last few days, so I think it is safe to say they know what they are doing. :)

I sent them a "progressive jpeg" as an attachment from Thunderbird (Linux) through Mweb and Axxess and they sent me a "Thank-you" the following morning THURSDAY (PPH) at 07:30. I have had trouble viewing some pics sent to me by Windoze buddies.
regards
peter

Heh. I've called Telkom at 2am with no problems. At least I can get though to them without having to wait.

Don't join them? Why do you think I'm sending my ID?

Well there you go, clearly Telkom are far superior so I have no idea why you are actually bothering with Afrihost

Jeez I see the thread no replies I type and hit send to find 5 others beat me to it!!!!

I'm sure they've processed thousands of IDs. That is why I cannot understand why they cannot download my attachment. I am not going to go though extra effort just because they fail at downloading an attachment. If you read carefully they aren't really having trouble opening the format as much as they are having trouble downloading it. It's probably being downloaded correctly with the wrong filename.

gmail is very unreliable imo, especially on slow connections like iburst - perhaps you clicked send before it even uploaded the jpeg?

So due to your error you knock Afrihost , copy yourself on the email to see if you can open it

Ja, they probably just got lucky with those several thousand other times, and your one chance has proved that they are totally inept and useless.

I strongly suggest that you just disconnect your computer from the internet and avoid dealing with all these useless and stupid people.

I find it very peculiar that there are so many threads with hectically anti-Afrihost headings and then it ends up being a silly problem that ends up being the user's fault.

All glory boys trying to make names for themselves on here by being controversial.
