No I'm deciding whether to go the afrihost mobile route but I just see complaints everyday. I like something that just works.

It definitely does work, there's been a massive amount of positive sentiment towards Mobile :)

I think complaints = gripes! It's (very) annoying that an account gets capped when it still has plenty of data available...

I'm not sorry that I dropped my existing ISP 12 months ago in favour of Afrihost, I now get very good value for money hosting and domain name renewal at a silly price.

December 2014 will be the make or break time for Afrihost...

Are we going to gripe when things go wrong? You bet ya!!

I'm not sure to what extent the batteries are covered, generally we offer 2 year warranty on our devices. You would need to check the warranty information that comes with the device. If it's a fault on the product, then it should be covered.

Protection plan is basically an extended warranty, so you don't have to worry about it for the future.

I have been through the documentation in the box, only a quick start guide and a safety pamphlet, nothing in there or on the box.

Please can you feedback the official position then AfriMan

I thought a general reply would be easiest here, I know we hit quite a few "Capped" pages with clients yesterday, which caused some frustration. We're truly sorry about this and I promise we are investigating this urgently.

We've also implemented some fixed so that if you hit the capped page, we should flag your account if we know you have data. I would say reboot your device 10-15 minutes later and it might resolve once our internal commands take effect.

We're still going to continue investigating further until we can minimise or eliminate this completely :(

That worked for me, thanks.

Our official position is that we cover the manufacturer's warranty. I don't have a copy available to refer exactly, but that would be our guideline in determine what falls in and out of warranty.

I must say that besides the capping every now and then my speeds have been great I by far prefer using Afrihost mobile to everything else.

Most of the time it's been a joy. :)

Great to hear it :)
Our team are making some progress on the capped error messages - I'm sure this will be sorted out soon.

Sorry to hear you feel that way :(
See if you can fill in this form and have it submitted, I've seen good results with previous clients.

https://www.mtn.co.za/_LAYOUTS/MTN.SP2010.FormsData/Networkcoveragequery.aspx

Yep, my query started with completion of that form that I found via a search on their site. And just as with Afrihost's customer service, I got no response. So I filled out the form again. No response. So I went I queried it via MTN's twitter handle ... but eventually gave up when I realised that it was a hopeless case.

Did you get nothing at all? You should have at the least got a confirmation email with a reference number. If you can give me that reference, I can escalate that with MTN's coverage team ASAP.

PM me if you can find :(

Hi there,

I haven't the time to go through the whole thread, but would Afrihost mobile be a viable alternative to adsl, which I can't get when I move, using max 150 gig a month?

If your monthly usage is over 100gb - mobile is gonna be crazy expensive. Heck anything over 20GB p/m gets expensive. You're not really going to find anything cheap for that amount of mobile data regardless of where you look.

Here's afrihost's prices: https://www.afrihost.com/landing/mobile_data/?src=homeslide

Another provider does have a 100GB SIM-only offering for R2000pm. Not for discussion here though.

Yeah, no. I've got a crowd coming to check for LOS on the 1st that do a cheaper wireless uncapped connection. There's a lot of trees though, so I'm not too hopeful

I cant find anything where I did get a reference number but I did get a "confirmation" email from [email protected]. It just repeated the question that I had asked in the form. That email was received on the 09/12/2013 but to-date, no response.

At that kind of usage you would need to check what your budget can handle. You're going to run into the thousands whatever option you choose.

Is there no way to get DSL at all? Even 1 or 2Mbps?
