I can tell you one thing, contacting MTN through that form is a waste of time. I got a reply that my area is well covered by their network.

They didn't bother to read my query at all. So they said I should phone their technicians to find out how to set up the right settings for my device.

Luckily my connection has been better. Still get fluctuating pings for some reason. The signal seems to be like a wave, up and down the whole time. I wonder if something is interfering with the signal there by me. However it is better now than when I originally contacted them.

That's weird, we've usually seen good results with them.
Did you ask us to follow up the ref#?

Nah, I just waited for MTN's reply and then posted here. :) The last couple of evenings things were much better though so for now I'm happy.

Afriguy, do you know of a company that does antenna installations? I don't want to try and do it myself. Would rather someone experienced do it.

In terms of installation, MTN outsource the work - I'm not sure by who/ what company though. I think it's a pretty straight forward task though. Drill some holes, install it, point and shoot and you're good.

Count yourself lucky - I never heard anything back from them.
 
Tonight I'm getting great speeds but terrible pings. Something not right with the connection. Will try Diablo III now and hope for the best.

Afriguy, any chance you can get MTN to upgrade East London ? Anywhere in East London the signal goes from 3g to edge in a matter of seconds. My ADSL is dead tonight and I have 3 afrihost sims , which are useless ATM. So I had to get Vodacom LTE data which was expensive, but works 100% better than MTN.

MTN speedtest : about 10kbps
Vodacom : 36mbps :)

Getting the capped page when I try to do anything on LTE. When I go into ClientZone it shows that I still have 3.9GB left.

I don't think upgrading the entire EL would be a quick fix ;) I know MTN are always doing roll outs though (I got LTE in my area 2 weeks back, sorry to rub it in :p) so I'm sure you can expect some improvements.
I'm sure you have already, but have you checked our coverage map for your area? If it's spotty you can log a coverage query with MTN.

Seems to be working now. I will check later today if it still works at home.
 
I have been using afrihost/mtn for some time now and everything was fine at the beginning everything was working good, good speeds etc. But from last year around November it has been getting worse at night around 7 it will slow down to 20-30 kbps and only let up and 11-midnight.


So from my side I filled in the mtn-afrihost coverage complain form thingy.But mtn never got back to me but afrihost did... after A while I got so fed with mtn not coming back to me I called them self and finally found a guy that will help me we spoke and after A hour or so when he got my details he said he will email me.


On the 2014/12/04 he email me with the following details on the tower:

Feedback: SPOKE TO CLIENT CANCELLED THE YAGI INSTALLATION. HIS ISSUE IS NOT SIGNAL BUT TROUGHPUT. HE ALREADY HAS A YAGI ANTENNA. I ADVISED HIM TO TURN THE ANTENNA TOWARDS OLIFATNSHOEK AWAY FROM SISHEN AS THE SISHEN TOWERS ARE HEAVILY CONGESTED.

I have been really patience about this but this has gotten to the point that I can't work nor play or using my internet for anything. I would really like for afrihost to step and find out what mtn is going to do or have plans for this tower.I am paying afrihost every month and for sure as hell they can find out what is happening . The case number is in the email qoute.

At this rate I am gonna have to move to somebody else its just getting worse and worse afrhost could really step up and ask mtn what the plans are for this area. I am very displease at how bad it has gotten :cry:

Really sorry to hear about this :( I know it sucks not having great throughput in the area. Sounds like there's congestion here though.
If you have that ref# from the coverage query and email - shoot me a PM and I'll escalate things with MTN.

I keep on getting the capped message on my mobile data although I have 9 gig left.

This is frustrating as hell. Can you please help?
