Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Having just cancelled my mobile portion (don't need it anymore) as well as Afrhost + , I still have the E5331 mifi . Is this thing network locked or can I use on any network ?
You can use it on any network. Just remember to remove the Afrihost APN.

Fair enough but this is a specific issue that was raised here, with info provided. Pity that was almost a month ago with no real follow up

Seems like we've got a little confusion on our side cos a few of us have been active on this thread. Can you please PM me with the details and let me get onto this for you?

Shot.
You have mail, thx

Fixed LTE

1.) Wondering why at Afrihost you've classified the free B525 with Telkom data each month as "fixed", because I already have one of them and it's very much a movable item !? Or does it have to do with the fact that there is a fixed time-period in place that you need to sign up & pay for (min. 6 months), as opposed to prepaid ?

I'm considering getting this to supplement my prepaid data through Telkom (and therefore cancel my ADSL).

Huawei B525 LTE Router
Speed - Up to 30Mbps

2.) What is the reason for advertising the speed at ONLY up to 30Mbps, because I and others (on the forum) are able to get up to & beyond 100Mbps using this router. My most consistent speeds are around the 50Mbps mark, but often reach between 70 - 100Mbps.
Are Telkom restricting you - and your clients in turn - at Afrihost to only 30Mbps on these packages ?

Thanks in advance.

Hope I can answer all your questions :)

1) The concept of fixed wireless is around the service, not the device. For RAIN (for example) they restrict their SIMS to devices that must use wall power and can't be moved. For Cell C, they lock you to a to a tower when you connect. So it's really that the product is intended for a fixed location, and not to be mobile.

2) It's difficult to provide guidance on the speeds - it depends on the demand in the area, how far you are from the closes tower, etc. 30Mbps is a guideline, but generally on LTE we see much higher speeds.

@AfriFella Nice meeting you on Twitter :D
Thought I should bring the discussion here. The Air mobile data - is it timelocked like MTNs? My data on MTN runs out after 7 days (on the 7 days specials) no matter how much I have left. Is it the same here ?

Ah just got your answer there - thanks. I like the 60 days. Does it keep track if you overlap purchases ?

Hey KT-B
7days is too limiting.
Our developers have invested a lot of time perfecting the tracking features. Our system tracks purchases, data usage, and everything in between.

Awesome - I look forward to seeing this in action. :D

The new system of transferring data is cool.. but couldnt we just have a pool account with ability to set limits (soft/initial limit and hard which will use excess in pool or topup to meet demand) on sims in the pool ?

Essentially automating what i presently do.

Hi @AfriNatic
I am having trouble getting the Afrihost APN to work on my phone.
I have Huawei P20 lite, dual sim
Sim1 has MTN prepaid, which I signed up for Air Mobile with.
Sim2 has rain sim.

I have followed all the correct instructions to set theAPN, but I still can't get the Afrihost APN to work at all.

I have had countless Whatsapp support chats with Afrihost consultants. All of them ask me to try the same thing, over and over again, and nothing works.

Can you assist?

Hi guys

@AfriGuy , @Afrigirl ,@AfriNatic ,@AfriFella

Can you please assist with this? It's been months now going back an forth between MTN and Afrihost on thiss issues, but still no joy.

That is a great idea. However, since we rely on the existing MTN infrastructure, we are not able to implement a pool system and automate what you do.

Hey kokzn,
I am so sorry that the issue is still not sorted. I understand how frustrating this can be. Please drop me a PM with your clientzone username and your MTN/Airmobile prepaid number.
