Afrihost Mobile Feedback

It's not the mobile connection. Cloudflare as a whole stopped the local CDN traffic for all it's customers except enterprise. So mybroadband, takealot and others all route to a next destination which on Afrihost is Kigali. Telkom and Rain routes to Djibouti so they are even worse.
Thx. Not sure what to do about this other than hope it gets resolved soon? Else I need to cancel this account and try some other providers. Not really sure what to do.

Well the route to Kigali actually got a bit better. The other providers like MTN, Telkom and Rain route to Djibouti which is like 230ms+ so yeah they are worse. At least to Kigali it's around 80ms or so when routed via Liquid telecom which is what Afrihost does even on Mobile.

Not sure if you will find a suitable replacement.

We are patiently waiting for Cloudflare to get their act together

@saor

Something changed.... Lol Okay Cloudflare took Kigali down it's now rerouted.

All Cloudflare Traffic on AFrihost,Axxess,Webafrica,Liquid telecoms is now rerouted and is going to Amsterdam

Last two days have been a lot better.
Sites loading and services streaming again.

Yeah even on fibre it's been a lot better. Liquid telecom probably upgraded a route or something because mybroadband loads like it used to when it was local.

The Cloudlfare issue has been on and off for a few weeks, so content providers are most likely looking at alternatives until the issue is resolved. Cloudflare also working on the issue.

Hopefully all will be resolved and looking normal again very soon.

For now, we think the experience is pretty close to normal, so hope it stays that way.

I ordered and received my LTE from Afrihost. It came with the Hauwei B311 router. Plex no longer connects locally. It seems other people have had a problem with this. I created a custom profile and set the apn to unrestricted however plex is still not working. This is highly annoying, any solutions would be appreciated.

I can check with our team if anyone has experienced this. Since it's local, it most likely to be related to DHCP - but let me find out more.

We've done some tests running plex on the B311 - worked flawlessly.

You might need to reconfigure your server. We used the basic standard setup.

Not sure if I posted this in the wring place, but could anyone from Afrihost perhaps assist me with this query?

Thanks.

As long as it gets our attention - it's the right place!

Will reply to you there :)

..........

We definitely would like to have real-time reports, however we have to work within the limitations of the interface we are given. However, we're working with Telkom to see how we can improve that :)

@AfriMan etc. - it's over 1.5 months since you wrote that and 2 days ago when I logged into the Client Zone, there's still the same message saying no usage can be provided on this by Afrihost.

Be that as it may - although you might address the above point in any reply I hope you give, on the following - I'm after some confirmation as to how carrying over of data will be treated on the 1st Dec., because I need to consider upgrading in Dec. for 2 months OR to know if some of the data I currently have (as per Telkom) will in fact carry over ?

When I checked my data usage via Telkom's USSD code about 2 days ago, I got the following info from SMS's sent back :
.... have 19,729 MB Inclusive Smart Broadband data available.
(9,489 MB will expire on the 1st Dec. 2019)

.... have 30,720 MB Telkom Mobile data available.
(10,240 MB will expire on the 1st Dec. 2019)

I've left the Inclusive Night Surfer out of this because it expires in full, from month-to-month, whether used or not.

Am I right in assuming that if I/we don't use more than the 9,489 MB + 10,240 MB that expires on the 1st Dec., approx. 10GB (on Inclusive Smart Broadband) + approx. 20GB (on Telkom Mobile) will definitely carry over into December ?
That'll be 30GB (approx.) available to use Anytime, in addition to the Anytime data I'll pay for / receive in Dec. on the package I'm on ?

Please clarify (if) you agree with that assumption, because if I'm misunderstanding that and I'm going to have (a lot?) less data carrying over, then I'll need to order a package with more data for Dec. (I'm aware from a note in the Client Zone that if you upgrade, you lose data that would've carried over on your old package, under the 60 days Telkom allows for, re Anytime data).

Again, there's no way to determine data used & available from your Client Zone, so I'm reliant on Telkom's USSD giving accurate info.

If I must increase the data package, is the cut-off date still the 15th of the month (after which time it wouldn't go through on the 1st of the next month) ? I think you mentioned it at some point in the past, but I don't recall seeing that specifically on the website or in the Client Zone.

And finally, if I want to downgrade it again after say, 2 months on the increased data package, by which date (within the 2nd month) should I login and downgrade, so that increased data package doesn't carry over into the 3rd month ?

Thanks.

No sure if I fully understand the question - will answer as best I can. If Telkom does not expire the data, it would be available to you according to the rules of their product.

If you submit your package change before the 15th, that should be fine (either up or down).

Have you considered changing to our new Pure LTE offer?

Im quite confused - a few days ago - I saw you offering LTE with a router - today not...

I go to MWEB's site, they do offer free routers - Am i missing something?

Was literally about to cancel my 10MB ADSL line until this debacle came out

We don't offer free routers, but we do heavily discount the router from R2499 to R999. These are high end devices, which offer better performance.

Are you looking at MTN or Telkom LTE?

You did though right? Im 99% sure of it, Honestly at this point - regarding MTN or Telkom LTE, they both seem to offer the same deal

Yes, we've standardised the deals. So we did offer a free router on Telkom, but it's now the same as the MTN offer.

I increased the data package significantly (for December, at least, to 80 + 80) via the Client Zone yesterday..
Unsure now if the R499 it displays will be the total I'm charged, or if it's R549 because of the fact that I got the original Telkom LTE deal (which included the router) ?
I'm inclined to think the latter price of R549, but please can you clarify what the upcoming invoice total should be ?

As implied by Belligerence above, options have changed since the original product was implemented, because I'm pretty sure one of the upgrade packages used to be a 70 + 50 which was done away with and now it's 60 + 60 or 80 + 80. (not a major concern).

Of more concern is whether you'll ever be able to implement daily or even periodic (weekly) updates to data usage, on these packages ?

Don't think I'm about to sign up for the MTN Pure LTE anytime soon - https://www.afrihost.com/site/newsroom/view/enjoy_pure_lte_this_summer.
I'd rather get past the initial 6 month obligation I have on the Telkom LTE (and router) option I have, first, and speeds are slower on MTN (been testing this week), compare to Telkom in my area.
