Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Sorry for the late reply. Today is the busiest day I ever had on mybroadband.

When you signup the opt in is sent to MTN and takes about 2 hours or less to activate you. The Afrihost APN is an addon and doesn't remove anything from your current MTN offers. this means you can have the MTN and Afrihost apn set and switch between them as you wish.

With Afrihost Air Mobile if you give us PII Concent we can pull call records, sms and data charges into your Afrihost app for you to see what you are being charged. This is a handy feature. You can also top up airtime in the app via card or debit order we don't charge a mark up on airtime.
Oooh thank you for the response and no problem on response time will sign up shortly

How would I set up a MTN Number for one of the packages?

Said number is contract

If the number is on contract the only packages that will work are the Air Mobile data only packages.

You simply signup and wait for the package to be activated and provisioned. Once activated you can swap the apn to afrihost in the phone settings and you should be sorted.

Signed up. Waiting for the number to be provisioned. Thanks

Any reason why throughput during loadshedding on the AH APN is non existent but if switch to the MTN APN its so much better?

Occasional incoming calls to my Afrihost / MTN number, which I immediately block (without even answering).

Got another one a few minutes ago.

Is Afrihost or MTN selling these nos for marketing (?), because far as I'm concerned, no-one should know of this no. I use for mobile data only ; I've also not handed it out to anyone.

Of those received, most seem to come from other cell numbers (could be spoofed to appear as if a regular cell no?), others 087 or 021, so far since signing up.

Because a mass dialer that calls randomly generated numbers is impossible?

Both I'm sure are possible.

I'd think @AfriNatic would reply that Afrihost don't sell the MTN nos they deal with, and they probably don't, but wouldn't put it past MTN doing so.

Maybe he'll have something to write about it ....

Spam call followed up by a private number - see attached ; all I know is there are morons out there very busy trying to waste / wasting our time.

That was one good thing about 2020, when just about the entire world shut down ; none of these spammers / marketing call centres were active, either.

EDIT : calls coming in via the Afrihost APN, so maybe they do have a hand in it after all ? 1656754852931.jpg

Did you not just call the 2nd Sim Afrihost?

As for the spam calls, most numbers are recycled. Very possible that happened or random automated call.

Perfect. Let me know if your service doesn't activate by tomorrow.

Still not active. Seems to be stuck with MTN

I can't say I follow your question about "calling" (naming?) the 2nd SIM "Afrihost", or literally calling the number?

The first SIM I did with Afrihost (subsequently cancelled) took about 3 or 4 days, and that was during the week.

The 2nd time around, full activation process was around 1 hour, on a Sunday night (maybe so quick because less busy then).

Do you have 2 SIM cards?

If so, most likely the second is called Afrihost and that's why it shows up as it does in your phone.

I do have 2 SIMs and I especially named it that, with a small "a" for Afrihost.

My other (primary one) is Vodacom, so easy to determine which receives unwanted calls at any point in time.

Recycled number. The number will already be out there.
