Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Persoanlly I have moved down from 10Mbps to 8Mbps, it hasn't changed the experience on Twitch and other online streaming services except YouTube.

You having the same problem as me? Some magical number that prevents you from streaming anything except youtube?

It's a pretty frustrating issue to live with though.
Give another router a shot to see if the issues can be replicated there or see if there's any QoS enabled on the current router.

Will do.

I actually just turned QoS on because well it can't get worse.

I use to have that problem yes.

After downgrading to 8Mbps my line became more stable and throughput improved. Twitch is still iffy, yesterday I couldn't stream it at all but all-round it's the best move.

Youtube streaming is still cr@p in KZN, 8mb line should not have to buffer 720p, let alone 240p

And normal browsing too, simple stuff like browsing the play store feels like the good old 384k days

Can you post a link so we can compare?

What is the distance from the exchange?

QoS can get pretty complex and can cause issues sometimes. I've broken a lot more on QoS on consumer routers than I've ever fixed.

I hear you. I've just never used mine before. Its always been set to off. You'd think a factory reset would keep it off as well.

Was your line unstable before?

Same question to you image. What is the distance from you to the exchange?

Uh, I think when I got 20mb the tech told me 1200m I could be wrong though. I can get 20mb but not 40. My line is pretty rock solid, I don't ever have drops. Hell ASSIA pushes my line up to 24mb even.

Strange then... Are you still on Interleaved or Fast path?

Drop me a DM with your line number and I can give you a pretty close estimate. :)

Strange then... Are you still on Interleaved or Fast path?

interleaved :/. I've tried my absolute best to get moved back over to fastpath (I miss my 6 ping) but ASSIA just keeps spoiling my party.

If it was a hardware problem like my line or my exchange being congested it should have shown up on speedtest results as well. Speed tests are always 100%. Its what makes this problem so infuriating. Its just streaming services (except for youtube) that have this problem, then the occasional website.

Drop me a DM with your line number and I can give you a pretty close estimate. :)

I appreciate the offer but I'm not fussed. My line is stable and according to telkom my line stats are very good for a 20mb line. I can't get 40 so here I'm gonna stay until fibre rolls around. Honestly I'm very happy with the speed I got, I just wish it work properly with everything.

Anyway I won't clog up your thread with my problem. If anyone has any ideas you're welcome to shoot me a pm.

Nope the problem still exists let me be clear. Playing Overwatch with 400ms ping cant stream youtube videos.
This problem still is up in the air and nobody wants to take ownership of it.
Im beginning to think me and us users are just posting stuff in here without any action. Can someone please listen to us, change the KLT exchange server in CapeTown it is a major problem. The traffic to that point is insane every night from 6pm to 11pm every night for KZN afrihost users.

For those in KZN, please see my post from earlier :)

Hi guys

So the latency seen in the region seemed to have been resolved, so I'm not really sure if this is a separate issue. I've asked our Network team to continue to do some digging

I know this is a really frustrating situation, but can I please ask the guys that are still seeing issues to consolidate their feedback into the same standard so I can pass that onto our team?
If you're still having issues please post the following:

Area/ suburb
Account type
Local traceroute
Traceroute to affected site/ service
Ping to bras.afrihost.com
List any other affected services
DNS being used

Thanks so much guys. I know these constant tests are a pain, but it's the best way to FW this kind of info through for something actionable on our end.
