Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Main reason I left, after years of continual tests, and never getting things totally resolved, I gave up. I also received an PM that basically attacked me personally, and even after complaining and speaking to a manager about this, the attitude was the same, this is not the way to treat a paying customer, you are not allowed to complain. They also contradict themselves, one minute you are asked to test with other isp accounts when there are issue, and then they say no this just complicates matters. I always found it odd that when there were issues, I even got better performance on their free account. I was a Business Uncapped user, and then they changed the conditions and started to allow shaping on the business uncapped accounts and this was all done without informing clients.

I looked around and there does not seem to exist a perfect SA ISP, a lot of them start off well but as soon as they get big corpoilitis sets in and the reps are forced to lie and evade sometimes irrational but sometimes valid customer concerns regarding company conduct... I'm just glad I don't have to be one. Remember afrihost may have made some misstepps but not nearly as bad as mweb... yet. I DO see the transformation happening though with little inside will to staunch it, rep enthusiasm only serves to keep the unruly masses at bay temporarily and it must be remembered that the reps themselves have no real power other than that which the company gives them.

So have a heart people they can only do so much.

Does your billing department even work before month end?? It's been 2 days & no response from them. This is NOT a good start! Here's my ticket number, I want answers.. AAQ-869-83868

True, but the reps are the companies voice on these forums, and its their attitude that determines a persons perception of the company. if they don't have authority then many someone higher up should post when things are not going well, but its the silence from higher up that at times is worrying.

come on pal, what attitude? They only here to ask for tests, which they pass onto the engineers etc . This is probably something which they have been asked to convey to the users on here. In fact, they are probably just doing their job. Probably the most active of reps on MyBB, when you look at some of the other ISP's currently.

Its okay to be frustrated, and angry, i can understand that as i said on several occasions, but its unnecessary for ex Afrihost clients, to continue to come on this thread, and give it large, and continue to attack them. Let by gones be by gones, if you have moved on, then be happy right now. I really dont see the point in all of this attack on possibly some of the nicest guys/reps you can come across, especially since a lot of clients are not experiencing these issues.

The reps are human as well, they shouldn't just allow to take the abuse, even though they have to act professionally about it. People seem to feed off that, because anything they say, and they get taken apart by it. It happens in so many industries right now

BTW PurSpyk, the above is not aimed at you

Past experience is valuable. You want to dismiss that? People who have been burned shouldn't be allowed to draw parallels between their experience and what new users are experiencing?

And according to AfriGuy, it's not ok to be frustrated and angry. They won't engage with you. His words.

no, nobody said dont engage, but if you constantly going to come in the thread, and still talking about bad experiences, then im not exactly sure what the point is, if you have moved onto another ISP. and no i wont dismiss past experiences, people learn from past experiences, so if they felt they were not getting the best service, then the decision to move is ultimately theirs. The problem comes in when they have moved, and then come along to continue criticizing things

The only reason AfriGuy said he doesnt want to engage, was the way in which he was approached, where he was told that they are treating people like fools. At no point in time, did any of the Reps treat anybody as fools.

Sinbad again, as i said, and will say again, if anybody is not happy with an ISP, its up to you as an individual to make a decision to leave. Nobody at any of the ISP's will hold a gun to anybodys head to stay with them. I just get this feeling that its now becoming personal, and thats never a good thing. People are frustrated, people get angry, but nobody should believe that the reps of any ISP wont become offended if they are constantly attacked for trying to help as best as they can.

but let me leave it at that, because im derailing the thread myself now :) Lets be happy people, tomorrow we meet each other, and not want to talk. :)

Please send me a traceroute :p

I get what you're saying, but you know what? As a company rep, you HAVE to suppress your feelings. It's a terrible job, but it's the job. Also, you never tried leaving Openweb, did you? :D

no worries pal... I hope you having a much better time of things, and happy for you. Hopefully the AH guys can get things sorted for those affected, and that all ISP's can have happy clients, irrespective of which ISP you belong to. and btw, OpenWeb offices have moved to Robben Island. Their staff have no way of leaving. :p

It really should be ISP's coming together and finding ways to enhance the internet experience for people in South Africa. Lets become world class with things, unlike in rugby and Bafana :D

If this is not aimed at me, then you quote me? Its also a known fact South Africans in general do not complain about [poor service, I have a few friends that are not too tech savvy, use a certain ISP, have terrible speeds, but don't worry to complain, and I am sure there are many more. I have also posted here when things have worked. But when I was doing testing for this particular isp, and having to pay to be a tester it got a bit much, I was even sent test accounts by critical care a few times that never worked, unfortunately, my time is not free, and I have clients I was given 1 months credit once due to network issues, and was made to feel like a criminal after that because I was one of the "lucky" few to actually get a credit for poor service. My current isp messed up my line speed, I got an immediate credit, and a nice email apologising for the error they made, small things like this make a big difference.

I think potential clients have the right to see that things might not be a rosy as some make out.

True, but let them find that out themselves. No need for others who are no longer clients of AH to tell them things are good or things are bad, they should make an informed decision themselves.

Oh please. You're telling me you don't make use of reviews or any form of customer feedback? Might as well shut this thread down if new customers have to spend money themselves instead of hearing from existing customers what their experience is. And btw, I know you're an Afri fanboy and all, but we're not ex customers. I paid for September so until the 30th I am still a customer. Stop trying to shut us down by labeling us ex customers. I'll continue to post here for as long as my ADSL account is active, and probably past that too because the MyBB forum rules don't prohibit it.

God knows how many people will get suckered into this nonsense if all they have to read are your posts. :erm:

Can people in this thread please stop moaning and just engage with the rep please? If you don't feel like engaging with the MyBB rep, you can always e-mail, log a ticket online or phone AH with your issues.

So, I can't have an opinion on AH as an ex client ?
But AH feel entitled to send spam - promoting new services - to my ex client email address !

Morning

Seen a few queries around this. Please PM me your DSL username so I can check what happened here.

Thanks for the offer @AfriGuy, but couldn't get back to the PC / internet 'til now. As soon as I tried logging on again, it worked. Don't know if you guys actively found a solution or something auto. changed to positively affect logging on again ?

I also tested an Afrihost connection I use for work, and before 6am it was the same thing - wouldn't connect.
So 2 Afri. accounts & 1 Axxess one wouldn't work before 6am (at least) - same backbone as in Neotel (?) .. could that have been the problem ?

Just glad it's fixed for now, and for anyone having a go at you this a.m., I'm personally relieved you have such a presence here on the forums no matter what problems arise .. compare that to Vox who have none, or just about none most of the time.

i honestly dont know what to say now. suckered into what? How many people are experiencing good things with them? Afrihost fanboy? Please, do me a favour, ive been an Ex Axxess user, im currently a Telkom user, and i frequently post in the CW and Vox threads. However, i dont go about spouting these type of things, because tomorrow i might be a CW user, or another ISP.

You telling me they will be suckered into this nonsense, but on the other hand, somebody with a good experience, shouldn't recommend them either? You being somewhat of hypocrite, trying to keep people signing up, because you have had a bad experience, but wont look at it from the other side of the coin?

you can, but the way in which people have started to become personal about things, is something which is not right.

Themselves, by experiencing things on their own?

So they must waste money and time, surely this is not right. But I have to admit, when I joined Afrihost, a few years back it was like a dream, but unfortunately it turned into a nightmare. Every night 19:00 to 21:00 things would go pear shaped, you could set your watch to it, even browsing was poor, switch to free account, any other isp, no issues. So this is just a warning, don't go with all the hype, free comes at a cost.
