Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Who chooses an ISP based on the city they're based in?!

There could be merit, for example a lot of the problems people face are location based such as IPC capacity.

If the ISP is in Cape town and would be affected by their IPC then I'm willing to bet said ISP would care more about upgrading the area.

People who are tired of JHB based ISP's telling us "everything is fine". I have a friend who lives in JHB and let me tell you that place has significantly less issues than Cape Town does. His AH experience is VERY different to mine.

That being I joined WA for a while when AH were having their wobbly. WA was great for about 7 months then things went downhill (for me anyway) and their cancellation process left a very sour taste in my mouth. Had to wait 50 days for my account to end. 50!

All I can say to anyone looking for a new ISP is that there is no perfect ISP in SA, you need to find one that's right for you. They all suck in some way so just pick the lesser evil.

Nope. The best ISPs in the country have phenomenal network quality everywhere in the country. Your network performance should be dictated purely by the quality of your last mile infrastructure.

That's not to say some ISPs don't have regional issues, but that's just because they're running a terrible network.

If I recall virtually every ISP has had issues in regions, I know I have personally experianced MWeb (In their early days when they introduced uncapped), WA and Afrihost issues, I have read about past (not sure if present) VOX issues too so that basically just leaves Internet Solutions.

All the ISPs you've mentioned don't have particularly good networks. Sure, there could be times when Telkom has major regional issues, but that has nothing to do with ISPs. As far as ISPs are concerned, their network should perform as well as any line anywhere in the country supports. If that is not the case, shaping and/or contention is to blame.

Internet Solutions is a backbone provider. One ISP on IS can be much better than another ISP on IS.

Someone who likes to go and dump horses' heads in the Aeron chairs of CEOs whose companies don't deliver...

I wonder if Afrihost will come clean or if they want to face another fine for lying.

Just like clockwork, Youtube is down the drain again this evening.

PSA for Afrihost customers: I got Youtube working by switching to Chrome and using the Magic Actions for Youtube extension. Set quality to 720p (or try 1080p) and enable Speed Booster. Works wonders by aggressively loading each video.

I have never ever had an issue with Internet Solutions since I've had ADSL (2007) which is why they are my primary provider. When I first joined AH they used IS, they just had really low thresholds on their uncapped. I downgraded to R29 account when the MTN move happened, and still have a R29 account now.

I agree with this statement.

Such as WA vs CW.
