Will try run the test again during the day tomorrow.

Can you leave a device on over the day, then do this:
Open notepad and paste this:
Code:
@ECHO OFF
:LOOPSTART
time /T >> pingExchangeResults.txt
ping bras.afrihost.com -n 4 >> pingExchangeResults.txt
timeout /t 60
GOTO LOOPSTART
save it and then change the extension to .bat
right-click and run it. Click ctrl-c to terminate once you get home.
The text file will be in the same place as the bat file, called pingExchangeResults.txt
It will ping once every minute, just edit the number after the timeout to change how long it should wait between pings.

Or here, uploaded as a zip: http://www2.zippyshare.com/v/WmLiEdw1/file.html

That BRAS ping is a strong pointer to severe congestion :(

Download and upload speeds are okay, but latency high.

To be fair, this test was done over a wifi connection, so might be worse than it is.

Sorry about the pic

I hope it's not your DSL Line acting up again. :(

Could you run a traceroute to Afrihost.com and ping bras.afrihost.com please.

thank you very much for this I have started it and will revert once I am back.

I am scared to ask... is there anything that can be done with a severe congestion of an exchange?

:( Not much I'm afraid... In most cases Telkom will need to add extra capacity to your Exchange. Do you know if anyone in your area is experiencing similar issues?

Anybody having connection issues at the moment? My router lights are all okay, but no throughput.

my internet connection is back up again, but strangely my internet light on the modem is showing red. Any ideas?

Are any of the AfriReps around today? No DNS using defaults since this morning, and have had a few messages from clients saying the same? I'm using Google DNS, is everyone else ok?

Your router should automatically change to new DNS settings. If it doesn't you can disconnect your session and restart it. :)

ok, re-connect fixed it (and also changed the DNS from 169.1.1.2 to 169.1.1.3)
