I have the same problem every night at intermittent times for the past 2 weeks. Afrihost says everything fine their side and Telkom says everything fine on their side. Sent everyone countless traceroutes and speedtest etc. every day to no avail. Dont know what to do anymore. Trying do download a torrent for the past 3 hours. Speeds go up and down the whole time between 10 -110 kbs. Up down up down. Average shows 82kbs/s And yes the torrent is fine. 82% now

I saw your previous post. It is bad but you should have forwarded it to one of the Reps instead or blank the name of the consultant.
Hope your line is fixed soon. :)

Why I Must blank the Name I'm sick off the Stupid answers I getting
I'm a network administrator the Afrihost support is not worth 5 days for a copy and past Answer
I ask 3 times the reps for Answers

And 2 months of packed loss at the Cape Town pop

Your message would have carried they same weight even if you had blanked the name.

ps. I know it is very frustrating when you expect results and your expectations aren't met. :o

Lara I am not sure how your international latency is so low. Mine is terrible ATM but my local latency is the same as yours. Granted you may be using a different undersea cable than I am due to location, but still, I have moments where everything is fine to international services, and moments where everything international goes to hell. But local traffic for me is never a problem.

My routing goes via Cape Town. I'm not sure which route it takes from there.
I'm in the Eastern Cape and at one stage I had better latency to Vienna than a person who stays in Cape Town. :)

ps. I have accounts with Afrihost and Telkom and both produce similar results. I'm very lucky, I guess.

So basically the only solution for the group of us having constant international problem's is to cancel and go elsewhere. Afrihost don't seem to give a damn. Only a select few are not having any issues, and those select few all seem to be in the Cape area.

Indeed ... TBH I am not too sure what I am looking at, Textile Guy here .... IT not my strong suit at all. :)

Was hoping to offer a comparative to OP who has the problem.
The latency to local sites should preferably be as low as possible whereas international sites should be <200ms if you are a gamer. :)

ps. The result of route tests are affected if your network is in use. It is best to do them when you aren't downloading or streaming content. The stats you posted look awful, by the way.

No, I believe the more errors you can point out will make the task of the network engineers easier to correct the system where it is lacking. :)

Alright. Maybe all the circumstances work in my favour. :p

You are at the coast, but half way between CT and DBN where the cables land .... I am in gangster land on Telkom ISP.

I get superb results to that site (151.101.16.73) --- 180ms - 188ms. Local connectivity is excellent (13 - 14 ms).

A friend of mine on Afrihost in the same exchange area right now ( he is next door to me, working on the same copper cable to the same exchange) right now while I was doing the trace, gets well over 300 ms. The routing his trace takes so vastly different from mine, BUT his local connection is simply terrible at the moment (varies between 50-ms and 109ms) go figure that one out.

PS: I have a 2Mbps service, he has I think a 4 Mbps service.
