Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Status
Not open for further replies.
While everything looks ok this morning, Facebook videos are buffering again.
Why is the network so inconsistent? KZN problems which no one seems to pick-up on. It's like a yoyo.

I was just watching an FB video of Jon Stewart on the Late Show, definitely playing great for me on a regular DSL line.

We have a dedicated person for testing in KZ trying to replicate these issues, so we're really trying to understand why your experience differs from the general network.

Remember that for international we have a single breakout point, so international traffic would be affected for all regions if there was an issue. Some FB content is cached, as far as I understand, but I'll see if I can find out more about how that works.

Anyone else battling with YouTube? Under 1mbps, speedtest shows full line speed.
Even myBB slow to respond.

YouTube seems perfect for me now, I didn't test much last night though :(

Come to think of it, some VPN magic is at play here dude..yes its Joburg but it resolves to a EU based server, They probably changed the name in the lookup table me thinks:confused:

Hey man, this is the DSL/Fiber feedback thread, here is the mobile one: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/555499-Afrihost-Mobile-Feedback-Thread/page402

Then why if you ping 41.206.178.2 you get 40MS ping...;)

the way I see it, 41.206178.2 is in PTA, but 216.6.55.85 is in USA hence the high ping. 41.206.179.13 would connect to 216.6.55.85 CDN, I'm guessing its a type of VPN ,which then routes to 41.206.178.2 PTA, that's why the ping on hop 10 is so high. Apparently this method of routing is common. But the Geo-location names are definitely incorrect.

But on a different note I came across this : https://www.freeccnaworkbook.com/blog/ccna/ping-vs-traceroute-vs-pathping
For those who want to know why Traceroutes pings are so high or why they timeout on Afrihost's network...think carefully before you blame your ISP :)
