Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

So you see this why people get upset and frustrated with Afrihost support. You basically dismiss people's complaints against the first possible thing and not consider everything that is said.

I make it clear in all my posts that I get no throughput. Not throttled/shaped, which according to the 18% download shaping should still give me some throughput. We're talking 10min+ to download 400Kb. I also cannot even connect to office 365. This only happens during the hours of roughly 20h - 23h. This cannot be shaping and I wonder how it relates to the peering issues you've been having.

We try and give as much info as we can reasonably give, so we are not dismissed, but still we get dismissed.

I'm definitely not dismissive of your issues, but I was under the impression that only your downloads were being slow. Was Office365 timing out? Or just really slow to open?

You definitely don't need to re-sub for WoW, I was just wondering if you had any other Blizzard games to test. I may need to get our Team to contact you directly.

We did get some strange results a while ago, and we had to get in touch with Blizzard to resolve it.

Well I will let you know later :) I have Overwatch, HoTS and Diablo 3 to test with Blizzard games :)

There is a great difference between slow and non existent. I tried to make it as clear as possible that it's Android updates that does not work at all. I regard 400Kb in 10min as not working, not slow. So not a general download, but rather a specific service (Play Store).

During that time I can do a speed test at almost full speed.

Latency are much better last night, compared to the last couple of weeks with your peering issues. I still get weird routing to your and mybroadband site every now and then.

You'll notice it's going overseas and then back. This has happened before in the last couple of weeks, but only during the hours of 20h - 23h. I'll PM you my massive trace rout spreadsheet as input for your peering work.

In browser and Outlook Office 365, specifically emails, were dead. Not slow, but rather unable to establish a connection at all. This has happened two nights in a row now. Pinging portal.microsoftonline.com just timed out.

During this Android and Office 365 issue when I connect to a Telkom account everything works 100%. When I switch back to Afrihost it's broken immediately not only after connected for a while.

I can't help but make the connection back to the MWEB peering issues you guys have been having. When I do android updates the established connection point here: 197-84-135-14.cpt.mweb.co.za.

Today marks 5 weeks of the infamous Mweb Peering Problem in the East. We past ridiculous last week, not sure what you would call it now. Observed maybe?

Yup. And like the problem itself, I see my posts here are also just being ignored.

The Afrihost website will resolve overseas as we currently have Cloudflare running on it. MyBB also recently implemented a Cloudflare setup to protect against DDoS attacks.

I'm reasonably sure the Android download speeds were being cause by shaping, if that is the case, you should see an immediate difference tonight compared to last night.

Office 365 though is a strange one, it should be classified as real-time traffic and isn't something that should be touched by the shaping policies. Were there any other Micrsoft-based services that were affected?

Yup. And like the problem itself, I see my posts here are also just being ignored.

:(

That's not cool, if you posted a question hear we definitely should have have gotten back to you. What was the nature of your query?

If this was/is shaping then it speaks to a very aggressive shaping policy, making throughput almost 0. Not really fare IMO, but who am I to judge.

I seem to remember onedrive working fine.
Also my automated trace routes to www.microsoft.com was same as always

I guess the only thing to do then is see what happens over the weekend.

Telkom has had to start processing quite a few line regrades manually over the past two or three months, and this has meant that regrades usually take around 5 to 10 working days to finish. :(

HartsockZA, three weeks is definitely too long, can you please PM me your line number and I'll check what's going on.

My 10mb line is with Telkom. Last week I phoned 10210 in the morning and asked to upgrade to 20mb. I got home at 5pm to see the change had already been made.

I think Telkom drags it's feet when the line is with an ISP, so not worth the trouble moving it if you ask me.

i was going to move my line from Telkom, but then the integrated data sim made me change my mind for now.

Hey dude, its cool, seems as though the line switch just happened to go through today. Line syncing to 4mb.
Looks really stable too, Yaay! going to bump the speed up now.

Edit; Now just waiting on Afrihost to give me my 4mb speed bump... How long does that take?

Experiencing authentication issues my side...

Live chat doesn't work..... Call me back doesn't work.... No reps available here. So that leaves me sitting on the phone waiting for help or waiting hours for support to pick up an email. AH please sort out your communication channels.

Can you quickly PM the username of the account that you are having authentication issues with?

The difference there is most probably that Heart is on a port with a max of 4Mbps and a Telkom techie has to be sent out to move him to another. Your port supported at least 20Mbps, it was just a software limitation set in place in order to limit you to 10Mbps, which was upped to 20Mbps.
