I'm also on capped, just batting for the people that are suffering.
Okay, but question then for those, why remain on uncapped accounts? I get that you dont have to worry about running out of data, or constantly having to check, but its very interesting.

The Business Uncapped accounts are specifically designed for Business and has unique features that Capped accounts don't have.

I agree with you Ice, now with unlimited overnight usage, capped makes sense. I prefer Axxess 3 month roll over tho, who wouldn't.

Yep, and its just something i looked at. Was going uncapped, but then read people struggling, and remained capped. Things these days are super smooth after earlier Telkom issues.

I always thought, that business uncapped was designed for business people or business minded people. So meaning that would it be designed for work rather than other non work related things?

Now I feel better, cancelled my account, and I will advise my colleagues to do the same. I can only be loyal for so long, and the lack of communication was the last straw, cheers.

Business accounts used to be fantastic, then greed got involved, and excuses, and then this and that and in the end Afrihost turned from being great become average, pity. Maybe now I can spend my evening actually working and not spending my time doing tracerts and ping tests like a lab rat.

Sincerely wish you the best of luck going forward.

My general feeling about shaping policy changing is that Afrihost could at least email the customers on those accounts, without looking stupid by having a banner on your site. For a tech company like you it should take one smart engineer 15min to do if you don't already have systems for this. You have all our info.
Secondly I actually understand the need to change the policy, but only if for the reason stated. So I can stand being shaped if there is some network outage that places heavy strain on the network, and as a last resort I get shaped. What I don't expect is to get shaped if you don't have enough capacity to cover all your users in the evenings. You should have capacity for your worst case scenario, 19h - 22h in the evening.

Critical Care responded to my ticket as follows
Code:
The youtube issue was due to peering links,
Engineers picked up some routeing issues.

Your problem is due to the account being shaped when there is network demand.
However, the capped account is also not performing at full capacity.
Now I know the investigation is not complete yet, so judgement reserved. I could however confirm the last two evenings that the capped accounts works fine, but business account suffers.

Telkom told me 20MB/s was vdsl and my netgear dgnd4000 router would need to be replaced. Router supports adsl 2+

It really depends on the exchange. The one I'm connected to is ADSL2+ which supports up to 20mb, although I'm only syncing at 14mb, I'm using an ADSL2 modem (Archer D7).

VDSL exchanges are newer and support up to 40mb in which case you'll need a vdsl modem.

EDIT: Syncing at 18428kbps

ADSL Availability
Service: Available
Maximum speed available in your area: 40Mbps (Copper)
Your Current Service speed: 10 Mbps

Looks like you on a VDSL exchange.

Don't quote me but I think you'll get your 20mb using your current modem, but if you wanted to take advantage of VDSL's higher upload speed then you'll need a new modem. Give 10210 a call in the morning (early, when the queue is short) and ask to be upgraded to 20mb, say nothing else, it's only another R50 on top of 10mb price so give it a go.

If your line isn't on the ADSL2+ profile after the upgrade has been completed we can request that it be switched from VDSL to ADSL2+
