EDIT:

Okay nvm routing gaming is IMPOSSIBLE. Switched to my cybersmart account....

Gaming was impossible this afternoon had to switch to Telkom, seriously considering downgrading my account. Afrihost has been very disappointing recently.

Very. I'm actually already cancelled and switched to cybersmart. Was just reporting. Switched to cybersmart and stable. Basically was just using my last bit of data.

These last few weeks have been absolutely terrible. International goes belly up every night. The mweb network becomes inaccessible, Facebook videos buffer and hardly ever play. Local latency jumps all over the place and p2p is pretty much dead. Are Afrihost even concerned in the slightest? It is not like I am the only one. I see daily posts of people experiencing the same problems as myself. Critical Care are of no use, my issues have been sitting with them for 8 weeks now, and I have seen zero improvements.

I didn't even bother with sending them tests, its the same problem that everyone is experiencing. I genuinely believe there is a capacity problem. The Business uncapped shaping policy pretty much tells us that their capacity is being stretched. This exhaustive testing that they put their customers through is very reminiscent of what Iburst used to do back in the day. I think its supposed to buy time or something. Anyway I joined crystal web and the difference is night and day.

What is sad is Afrihost have a customer portal like no other, light years ahead of the competition. If only their DSL network was the same. One would have thought with the reduction in IPC pricing Afrihost would have been able to increase capacity and lower contention, neither seem to have happened. Afrihost should take their upstream provider Echo SP to task. This is becoming unacceptable, as much as they Afrihost deny any problems on the network, there are.

+1 The IPC prices drops meant 1 of 2 things for ISPs.... Drop prices at same performance levels or keep prices the same and get more capacity.

If memory serves me right neither happened at afrihost. There was no price reduction and by the looks of things capacity wasn't increased too. These symptoms of high latency means just 1 thing. Shortage of capacity. It only happens during evening peak so yeah capacity issues.

That's exactly what it is.

1 of 3 things:

Keep prices and capacity the same and make shareholders happy.

I tried Crystalweb.
The same line, hardware and software.
Everything working like a sharm!
Afrihost told me foggy story during past weeks about pings, software e.t.c.
Bu****t!
They have problems and don't want to admit.
I spent numerous hours with the tests and conversations with them tried to solve THEY issues!
Now i tested Afrihost and Crystal connections - by simply change user/pass on the router even without disconnection of the router from ADSL. It is day and night! The same websites streams full speed. According to the previous info they are outdated and slow!
So the story with Afrihost see the finish line . . .

Cape Town East - Corline has been digging open lines in our area over the past 3 days - they closed up the hole they dug yesterday - but now our internet is totally buggered again.

Telkom downplays ADSL exchange congestion concerns
Telkom says that it continuously monitors its DSLAM backhaul with regards to potential congestion, and takes action if problems are detected

Speedtest.net results AFTER Telkom resetting the ports and switching the router off and on again.

Ping 785ms to Vox Telekom server IP in Cape Town
Download Speed 0.23Mbps
Upstream Speed 0.35Mbps

So if resolving congestion requires investment by Telkom into the local exchange set-up - I suppose we in our area are basically screwed, and there are new residential expansion ongoing - which will mean even more unhappy Telkom ADSL line renters.

New tracert www.afrihost.com after reboot and port reset....

I download tv show from Germany 500 Kb/s and web Africa 1.2 mbyte/s

Changing ISP wont fix over congested infrastructure - I'll just be paying more money into Telkom's problem...to another ISP monthly...so no point in upgrading this account to anything "faster" either - If I cannot even get consistent speeds I am meant to be getting on the current account.

The only thing that will be "FASTER" will be the name of the account on the invoice.

The ISPs don't own the exchanges or the DSLAMS...Telkom does.

You are right from one side.
From another side please then explain the next:
webpage with the videoclip downloading from one ISP at 50Kps and with the same line, hard/software 600Kps under the management of another ISP. All this NOW - network is not busy.
So "faster" is working for the some cases.

Latency and download speed very up and down this afternoon.
Speed tests obviously full speed. They must be shaping the sh*t out of our business accounts again.

5pm today
