Will each IPC region get it's own Google cache cluster?

I am guessing Cape Town guys are the guinea pigs

Got confirmation from our Network team on this, Google has presence in JHB already - so the North region uses that cache directly.
We've setup the cache in the South which looks to be working well, looking at rolling out one in the East too :) For now though, we're using Optinet peering links.

4:20 pm. Streaming Dave Jones on youtube at a rate of knots - full 50fps.

Yet, this soldering iron review buffers at 144. Completely unwatchable.

10mbit line. Cape Town.

Seems there are some issues...
Possible, that maybe the stream host is not great for the soldering video? Ill check the video out tonight, and see, but odd to have one video flying and another struggling.

Seems odd... I'm assuming no other services were running while you were testing the 2nd video?

Nope - just the youtube :)

Tried another obscure review and same thing. Slow. Won't scale up to higher resolutions. Buffers.

Then tried a popular vid to compare (good ol Crazy Russian Hacker) and it is flying 1080 at 60 fps right from the get-go.

Definitely seems to me like unpopular content is struggling - no idea how the google cdn works, but it obviously isn't coming from the cache.

If I go back to the original vid now, it flies. Must now be cached locally after I watched it the first time.

I think you hit the nail on the head here... Congrats on being the first Capetonian to watch https://youtu.be/916QK4pzD2c! :D

I'm confident that your experience will only improve as lesser watched content gets cached. :)
