Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Can someone from Afrihost please explain why you shape Windows Update and Apple App Store traffic on a capped account. Your website clearly states that capped accounts are not shaped. I have been trying to patch a handful of devices today and it has been an absolute nightmare! If I manually download the Windows updates, the http download via browser runs at full line speed. The Afrihost website reflects the network status as "running like a bomb" yet the service is unusable.

I to experience this very thing with Microsoft updates.

I've seen many complaints about Apple traffic recently on account of the recently updated iTunes and iOS. Make sure you test with another ISP to be sure.

Well now I see why they are trying to encourage daytime use.
Testing with the R1 account and a stream that was consistently giving 1.2MBs all day is now giving only 50KBs.
Unless this is a result of the earlier outage I don't think i will be moving back just yet.
They need to get the IPC to Capetown sorted to Accept the Evening load, we have a different use pattern to JHB.
At least it is not costing anything to test so thanks Afrihost, and I will keep trying.

These updates are cached regionally for the best experience. Please use your regional (auto) DNS servers to get the most out of them. :)

There are no capacity issues at the moment. Your R1 account is also not different from any other - except for the price you paid this September. :) What DNS settings are you using?

I am using the "Get from ISP" setting for DNS.
Just switched over to Telkom account to make sure it is not the line.
Although I am not getting close to what I had on Afrihost this afternoon, I am getting 250KBs rather than 50KBs.
Considering Telkom is shaped vs Afrihost unshaped that could explain it, it is a P2P stream.
So if there is no capacity Issue and I still can't stream in the evenings, then Afrihost has still not fixed the issue that caused me to leave.

Afrihost DNS servers are too unreliable. We have tried numerous times to use your servers but these servers are plagued by outages, stale records and inconsistencies. Google's DNS servers offers a stable reliable service. Why do you guys shape traffic on capped accounts when you advertise that capped accounts are not shaped?

This normal?
