Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

YouTube was down for me last night and tonight (everything else I tested worked fine). Went down both times at around 8PM. It's not a specific video, it's everything - videos and the site itself - I can't even load the home page.

The fix was flushing the DNS on my router and PC. Two traceroutes below - first one from before DNS flush and second one after (it seems that your local YouTube cache just dies (or something) and your DNS is updated, but the record is cached way too long, so clients just don't get the update):

Tracing route to youtube-ui.l.google.com [169.1.2.88]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms router [192.168.81.1]
2 * * * Request timed out.

Trace complete.

The second trace was done at around 8:30PM, the first, about 2-5 minutes before.

Edit: Just to add something - performance is almost unusable after the update. Plays video for a few seconds and then buffers 10 times as long as it played and then repeats.

For those Man United fans, sorry they lost

Telkom has so manu outages in so many areas, my area included. Frustrated with them now. Twice in a row

Flying happily at the moment... Streamed the entire Man United game..

OK you Soccer Fans hogged the bandwidth today but remember that Fri, Sat & Sun, the Bandwidth belongs to the Petrol Heads and the Singapore F1 Grand Prix. ;>)

No issues my side either. Downloaded the latest Hearthstone patch minutes ago at 4MB/s. Youtube streaming normally.

Afriguy, did Telkom inform you guys why there's so many outages across the KZN region? It reached a peak of 69 outages. I'm still stuck with no internet.

Morning

DNS resolution may resolve internationally, content should be pulled from a cache/ CDN though.
Are you having an issue with a specific video?

Kimi fan myself :D

Am yet to stream SkyF1 buffer free tho (during the race, other times it's okay) - on any ISP - only reason I'm keeping DSTV, so if anyone has any tips, it would be greatly appreciated :D

No, not a specific video. The entire site is down and I get the generic "site is unreachable" message in Chrome. When I flush the DNS, it starts working again.

Sounds like an odd one, what DNS servers do you currently have configured?

AG - Please could you help with a port reset? I got bad throughput at the moment... :(
