Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Afrihost don't do this physically, they send a request in to telkom on your behalf.
Then it is all up to telkom to send a technician to your exchange where you are connected to make the required changes.
That is why it can take a few days to a few weeks, all depends how quick telkom get a technician out to do it.
OH and then it also depends if there are open ports available for DSL.

Yeah I figured as much, just seeing if there is an average time that guys have had this done in, I gave my mum my LTE router this weekend so am sitting with no connectivity apart from through my phone and that 250MB for R1 is as good as done!

The SNR & ATTN looks fine, should get a stable connection with that.
This is mine on VDSL and stable connection for months now.

Current Downstream Sync
20440kbps
The current download speed established between the DSLAM and your modem.
SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio)
10.9dB
Signal-to-Noise Ratio on the line. A value below 6dB can cause problems.
Attenuation
20.2dB
The amount of resistance on the line. A value below 55dB is good.

Current Upstream Sync
2044kbps
The current download speed established between the DSLAM and your modem.
SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio)
6.3dB
Signal-to-Noise Ratio on the line. A value below 6dB can cause problems.
Attenuation
19.2dB
The amount of resistance on the line. A value below 55dB is good.

However there seems to be a lot of CRC and HEC errors, so that could indicated a fault on the cable, a street box, the card you connected to at the exchange.

I also had a "metallic" noise according to the technician before, I was switched to a new card at exchange and all was resolved.

yep, the CRC and HEC errors were there before. Strangely everything works well, but im going to guess that there is still some form of degradation happening somewhere, and needs to be completely replaced

Sooooo on average, how long does it take Afrihost to change my voice line into a DSL line :) Been 5 days now...but not sure if anything happens over weekends though, should I just blame Telkom? Yes I know it can take between 5 - 30 days but trying to see the average or if anyone has any "connection connections" in Telkom!

We try and get it done as soon as possible, it's within 30 days if there are ports available though.
I see we were chatting via PM last week, I'll check the order status in a bit.

That's the sign of the ninja ;)
How's your DSL line doing?

pretty solid.. dont know if you followed the earlier convo with AM, but basically had a few drops (Internet light went red) but a reboot sorted that out. Had some wifi issues where the missus phone wouldnt be able to get any connection, despite showing that she is connected.

Techs still picking up any strange noises?

didnt have another tech out again yet... Basically got the replacement router from Mrs Pony :D, and that made a huge difference

so from struggling to below 3mbps, and sometimes to not able to run a speed test, i get that with the router replacement.

its just the wifi has me stumped, because my buddys Dlink gives me this, and then when i reset to factory settings, its got all the info in it again. My DNS was set to auto as well. so i know for a fact, the wlan settings you see below, should not be displaying those type of results with virtually nothing in it. Mrs Pony's Aztech router has my wifi back up again and my can connect.

Looking good dude :D
Is your WiFi dropping? Maybe look at changing around your channels/ broadcast strength?

:D yeh speeds much better. Ive tried that. Using wifi analyzer and had on channel 6 and 11, and auto. Her linkspeed shows 5mbps on her phone with the Dlink, mine shows 135mbps. With the Aztech router, i get 135 and she gets 75mbps. So im not ruling out that the Dlink somewhere has become a bit fussy with something. ive not changed anything and left everything to auto.

Maybe look at replacing the antennas with stronger dB?
When in doubt. Ethernet all day :D

Never noticed this before, but why is Client Zone showing 2 active sessions with the same number and different IP addresses? Is one the PPPOE connection on the PC?

Could be an old session that's showing up.
Drop me a PM with your DSL username and I'll check it out.
