Not aware of any DNS specific issues, were you able to run an dig or a traceroute to see where things where going wrong?

Afriguy, I really dont know how this happens, but same thing happened to me last night, like clock work.
Very bizarre.
Suddenly some of the YouTube streams stopped.
I put them on a lower stream like 360 or 480 they start working again.
Put them back to 1080p the nerd stat shows there is no "Stream Host"
Do a tracert to YouTube.co.za and .com and there is not showing any problems, ping and trace is normal.
Then progressively more streams stopped to work until the Chrome Browser complained about a DNS Resolve issues.
Rebooted PC but do not help.
Rebooted Modem did not help.

Try to do a tracert and just get an error about DNS Host could not resolve or be found.
At this point can no longer reached MyBroadband or any website, just this DNS Host unknown/resolved warning.

Switch over to VOX account and everything was working again.

Come back some hours later to AH Account and all is working again.

It is almost like someone turns on some "scrambling" device around 19H30-19H45 and things go on the blink and stop working.

When the issue starts to happen tracert and pings does not show any issue they work normal, until the DNS unknown or cannot resolve error pops up then you can do no more ping or tracert.

Doesn't sound like you have DNS issues here, could be something else.
Doe your connection drop at all? Have you tried running your alternative account for a prolonged period of time?

No I only tried to fix the problem immediately not diagnose it. Thats why I tried rebooting the router to no avail. As explained as soon as I replaced auto assigned dns with google dns, my internet came back to life. I hope this makes you aware of the issue.

If there where DNS wide issues we'd have a lot of queries around this, I'm almost certain that this isn't a DNS specific issue :)
When you see a similar issue please try and grab a few more tests.

Jannier just posted explaining that he experienced a similar problem...
Or is it that there's not enough people who's internet went to **** so Afrihost doesn't care. Understood

No connection never drops.
Yes run my VOX account primary most of the time.
On some days to use some of this free data during the day I switch to my AH account, and so far every-time I have been on the AH account around 19H30-19H45 this issue starts. I then fiddle around doing a few trace and ping checks but cannot spot anything out of the ordinary, up to the point when I start getting this warning about DNS unknown or cannot resolve.

OH and I just remembered now, If I then hard change the DNS servers on the modem from the AUTO assigned by ISP to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, everything works again.

Or If I switch back to my VOX account everything is working again normally with the ISP assigned DNS or the Google Public DNS.

Sounds like a slightly different issue.
We do care, but we need to run through tests to determine the cause properly and check the data :)

Mind running Google's DNS servers now until this evening to see if the issues can be replicated?

Then show us that you care. Forward jannier and my posts to a tech who can then start investigating. Update us with any news.

I have to admit though AG, that ive also come across a page timing out with a DNS resolve issue. But then reloaded the page and back to normal. But thats only been few and far between though

I've already queried our Network team and we aren't seeing any issues from our end, at least nothing we can replicate, so we need to see some tests.

If you guys do have issues, please post the following:

Account type
DNS being used. If auto, what DNS IPs are being assigned
Traceroute to afrihost.com

Thanks :)

OK, I will enter the google DNS server IP's now in the router and see if I can get past 20H00 without issue.
Will let you know either in the morning if all went well or tonight in case it goes belly up again.

Cheers, keep me posted :)
If there are issues, you can also run these tests:

AG, when are we getting support guys through the evening? is this in the pipeline? ie support via online chat until at least 00:00? :)

For Social it'll probably be a while still, the best bet for after hours Support is via traditional channels.

Unless some logs can be accessed regarding what happened last night, checking the network now for issues is next to pointless. As explained the problem only showed up in the evening so they need to wait till the evening until any issues will crop up. My account type is capped dsl. Cheers.
