Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

BTW, it is shaping. I used a Turbocharge to test if it was shaping and now the sites actually open now. OneDrive was also affected and now it too opens. I can actually get into my MEGA account now and use Mediafire...

Huh... Thanks for the update... Browsing shouldn't be affected by shaping at all, as I mentioned previously, our Team will get to the bottom of this.

BTW I tried the sites when the Turbocharge stopped. The sites are no longer loading or take an absolute age to load and Chrome throws a "mega.nz took too long to respond." error. So definitely something here. Can I give you my ticket number and maybe you can update it or something? I don't know. I have responded to the ticket with my findings, regarding activating Turbocharge, already.

Hey Afriguys,

I don't know whats the problem with the Durban Afrihost network, or if its affecting the rest of the country, but it seems everyday for the past 3-4weeks from 7:30am-8am my p2p services turn to crap... torrents are nowhere, cant connect to vpn services, battle to connect to TeamViewer services, struggle steaming YouTube etc. when I log into clientzone, it says there is no shaping applied, when I do speed tests, general browsing, trace routes I have no problems at all. decided this afternoon after reading some posts on myBB forums about people using turbocharge to solve their connectivity issues... and low and behold I am now able to connect to everything after activating the turbocharge... but if there is no shaping applied to my account then why the hell do I need to turbocharge?!?!?!?!?!?!

btw... I submitted a support request through clientzone a couple days back.... not that, that got me any help....

I wonder. I've never had shaping before on this new network and now this month my p2p is also shaped to death to the point where they don't even start and it's starting to affect some sites from loading as well. Other Durbanites are also having issues with p2p and sites not working. See link above.

I confirmed with AfriFella, I think, that I am indeed being shaped on P2P and that ClientZone doesn't reflect shaping status correctly but apparently it's being worked on.

quick update... moment turbocharge ended.... boom all services were out again... this seems like a far bigger issue than just shaping, in the past when my torrents were being shaped, I was still able to connect to my international vpn, teamviewer and streaming... hopefully afrihost can shed some light soon. I've been experiencing similar issues on my work connection (afrihost business uncapped) and my boss has been having problems on his home line (home uncapped) interesting thing is, he never torrents or anything of the sort (think he normally uses around 70GB per month on his 4Mb line, just iTunes downloads and streaming, but is complaining about his streaming etc, an I look like a tool because I recommended afrihost to him...

AH Capped 18mb line:

ubuntu torrent, took 6 mins to even start (shaping), slow laborious climb (shaping), lots of peaks and valleys (shaping), ave speed 700kB (shaping), 34 minutes to complete:

but I get this on fast.com (no shaping)

Then same ubuntu torrent on 10mb IS uncapped account which is obviously rate limited to 10mb on my 18mb line:

Starts immediately (no shaping), fast climb to limit (no shaping), table mountain look (no shaping), ave speed 1.0MB (no shaping, rate limited), 23 minutes to complete:

I'm definitely being shaped. Even my windows updates are not downloading at normal speed?? :(

I just tried Windows update and something's definitely wrong.... waited about 10 minutes and it refused to download
Switched to WebAfrica and download started immediately

btw I'm on a capped account with AH on 20mb VDSL line...in Durdan
oh yes...I'm also on Windows 7 Vorastra:D
