You should have found the local image and it should have taken no more than about 40 ms.

Routing across South Africa should be stay within the 50ms range in most cases. Depending on where the CDN or cache is located relative to you can also affect the latecy quite a bit.

In this particular example, OP ended up accessing MS at source in the USA instead of a local Akamai mirror cache in SA. What would have caused that to happen?

Yes I suppose 50 ms should be the worst case across SA. My figures are based on from a typical large urban area.

BTW, there is a Win 10 update scheduled for later today and tomorrow ........

Hi I've just upgraded to a 10Mbps line from a 4Mbps and there don't seem to be much difference. The speeds are what I'd expect from a 6Mbps or a bad 8Mbps line but not 10Mbps :(

It definitely looks like kohlhtor is accessing the local MS CDN, if his traffic was being routed to the US the latency would be close to 300ms.

You should be getting 1MB/s, what are you actually getting?

Are you on a Capped or Uncapped account? Could you maybe PM me your DSL line number and I'll check what's up.

It's capped, I had a chat to one of your guys he reset something and it seems to be fine now however I can't help but think that the speed limitation was done on purpose in the hopes that a customer won't notice. The upgrade was just done recently so if there was a problem it should have been detected. Just a thought though I could just be looking too much into it. ;)

Its around there I think
Download Speed: 8191 kbps (1023.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 842 kbps (105.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 59 ms
Jitter: 1 ms

That's definitely not the case, your session may have needed a fresh to ensure that you get the best possible speed. Our Capped accounts have no speed limit and will run as fast as the DSL line allows.

What sort of issues are you experiencing at the moment?

I believe it's a hardware issue on my side (line or router) after running some tests.
The issue was a series of disconnects for a few hours. Not sure why it started all of a sudden but it seems fine now.

If it starts happening again, please let me know. I'll check what's happening on my side.
