Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Nope is fine on another ISP. None of the same latency even after a while.

Does the latency you experience on the Afrihost account only happen at certain times of the day (peak times), or is it constantly high?

That does sound super strange. Did this start happening after any changes were done to the router?

Negative. I just noticed the internet light red, but no connectivity was lost. I have been scratching my head around this. I tried to change to the DNS to Google DNS and thought maybe that might fix it, but no. I just find it weird as well

Do you have any static IP setup on the connection?

Could also be the router displaying some arbitrary colour. :D

the only thing static on the router is dust lol :D

Maybe its just nice colour change, sort of a way to relax me while im in front of it :D

It seems to be more peak related however I am not home in the day to test conclusively.

what are other ISP's like during those times? And what DNS are you using? When was the last time you changed Router/POTS filter etc?

As mentioned before. This is not present with other isps and persists across DNS changes. Thus it is unlikely to be related to any noise that could be introduced through filters.

distance to the exchange? whats the distance like? I see you in Cape Town, Southern Suburbs. Anybody else close by you know thats also experiencing the same issues?

What you can do is run comparative tests(traceroute, ping to bras.afrihost.com, speedtest etc) , using the Afrihost account and another ISP account so that we can see where the issue is originating from.

If you have a windows device you could leave on for a day:
Can you leave a device on over the day, then do this:
Open notepad and paste this:
Code:
@ECHO OFF
:LOOPSTART
time /T >> pingExchangeResults.txt
ping [B]bras.afrihost.com[/B] -n 4 >>[B] pingExchangeResults[/B].txt
timeout /t 60
GOTO LOOPSTART
save it and then change the extension to .bat
right-click and run it. Click ctrl-c to terminate once you get home.
The text file will be in the same place as the bat file, called pingExchangeResults.txt
It will ping once every minute, just edit the number after the timeout to change how long it should wait between pings.

Or here, uploaded as a zip: http://www2.zippyshare.com/v/WmLiEdw1/file.html
That will ping the exchange every minute, just make another copy and change the first piece in bold to another address and the second bold just change the name so it doesn't overwrite each other.
The other option:
https://www.pingplotter.com/ run it for a day.

Afigents.... I inboxed Afrigenie my account details to have a look if they can pickup something wrong on my account. Should I ask someone else or will Afrigenie be online tonight?

Hey,

Spoken to AfriGenie, who's made a few changes to your account. Please could you give your router a quick reboot and let me know if there are any changes.

Get them to open a line fault, you need an OpenServe technician to come check it out.

I don't think a port recreate will really help in this situation.

I contacted Telkom and they said the fault is with the cable team?? Openserve is Telkom?

Telkom rebranded itself, the ones dealing with the last mile (fiber and dsl) are now called OpenServe. Telkom is the ISP and the mobile provider. It's to help with a clear separation between them.
