Afrihost New Network Feedback

Looks like it's been a much better weekend for Afrihost, from a complaints point of view. Afriguy and Afriman will be delighted :D

I think I did about 5gig last night.. maybe I'm just dof... PM sent.. BTW I'm logged in with normal account and not the test green account.

You should see the data link in your ClientZone. For me it only appeared once I had actually moved a bit of data in the time frame (after midnight and before 6am). I didn't close my session or do anything except schedule a whole lot of downloads to start exactly at midnight.

Must've been my exchange :-( centurion sucks at times. Like tonight Hulu plays nicely but Netflix is stuttering :-(

That's weird, I think in terms of streaming throughput is mostly the same (in terms of the demand for various quality levels). Perhaps it was related to the DNS you were using. Since you using Netflix and Hulu, I'm assuming that you weren't using Afrihost dynamically assigned DNS.

Having issues with Twitch streaming.

I'm on a 10mb line with plenty of cap and I can't even stream twitch on medium without it buffering.

It's not like this is the first time it's happened either, just the first time I've bothered to gather some evidence.

I tested both medium and high quality on Twitch. You can see the quality controls on the bottom left of the videos.

(warning, might be loud)

Medium: https://vid.me/5k6j
High: https://vid.me/rWxB

I don't want to go on and speculate wildly, but shouldn't it be going higher than 100kbps? From my perspective this is not the product I thought I've been paying for.

EDIT: Funny part is it's even buffering when I try to watch the videos I just uploaded.

We're doing a lot of testing on Twitch and we've been getting generally good results.

With Twitch (or any streaming) it depends on lot on what DNS you are using, our network is optimised for using our dynamically assigned DNS (and that's what we test against).

If you are still battling, we'd be happy to check this out with you and try to improve your experience - just PM me :)

If by properly impressive you mean inconsistent as all hell

Then yeah, they have been phenomenal

I had to turn my WiFi off just to use tapatalk. I can't stream worth a damn and my speed tests are showing 6mbps.

This is not impressive at all.

And honestly, I am getting real tired of doing speed tests, tracerts and ping tests. I appreciate that I have been dealing with the critical care team for 2 weeks but I have seen almost zero improvement (relating to consistencyl

I think the Critical Care team are really working super hard to improve your experience. They are standing by for the results from your tests and will continue to work with you. The results you've posted here aren't consistent with what we're seeing in general on the network and we want to iron out all the possible variables so that any clients using the same configuration can also benefit.

To be honest it's only streaming on Twitch that is so inconsistent. Everything else works perfectly - pings in game, torrents, other downloads, YouTube - which is why I've been with AfriHost for just under 2 years now.

However, in all these years I don't think I've ever had the thought "Twitch might stream without stuttering today" not in the back of my mind.

As you can see my speed test is all good. It's just... Twitch... maybe it's just Twitch but I don't think so either because I do get times when I can stream fine. And being such a big platform I think they would definitely cater properly to demand .

I'd just like a more technical answer on this issue rather than more polar views of "AH is terrible" or "AH is amazing".

Twitch should be good, so the important thing is to link the specific conditions under which some clients might be getting a different experience - DNS, area, routing, region, or caching, anything which directly affects their experience so that we can improve this wherever possible on our side.

Afrihost 8mbps+100Gb bundle, line locked @ 5120Kbps DL and 511Kbps UL
very happy sofar:D

That's so awesome to hear :)

Its been fully upgraded to a 8Mbps profile..I just asked him nicely to lock my line at those speeds, because I did some research, after trial and error I found that my line would work perfect on 5Mbps and it does. And I'm paying R 548, adsl rental included:)

and to anwser your question, yes my line is with afrihost

That's a pity to get so much less that the profile. Is it not worth it going for 4Mbps and saving some cash?

I hope you are at least saving by being in a bundle :)

I don't understand, are you saying if no other ISP is consistent we can't expect Afrihost to be consistent either? Why should Afrihost, or anyone else for that matter, not strive to improve? Sounds very defeatist that we should just accept that we will never get a reliable service from any ISP.

Anyways, hopefully when the weekend is over someone can answer my main question...

I think Afrihost, like many providers, are always keen on improving on any area under our control to give our clients the very best experience that we can. We spend a big chunk of our time looking for these areas to improve and testing internally and with as many clients as we can to improve every aspect of the client experience that we can, from our network to our ClientZone.

There will always be some factors that fall outside our control. We'll do our best to find ways to mitigate these issues, and to find possible solutions as they come up. I am sure many providers face similar challenges.

Im paying exactly what I paid for on my 4Mbps+75GB bundle, thats why I upgraded and besides my line would not be able to handle anything higher than 5Mbps sadly, but never the less, atleast now when they upgrade our exchange to handle VDSL I would be able to bump my line up to full 8Mbps :D.

anybody else having crappy speeds and browsing even local is bad

From the feedback here, everyone is definitely having a good experience. As I've posted several times, and seems to be evident from the work Critical Care has done, whatever is happening is definitely on your side.

When they chatted with the account holder, she said everything has been working perfectly in her experience and we also noted that you've pulled a generous amount of data, so there is no problem with your account.

Please post some results or something to indicate that there is an actual problem, otherwise it's not helpful to the forum :(

Afrihost's new network does have the best ping in LoL in my testing out of all ISPs, Except their were some hectic spikes last night for some reason, today is smooth though.

Glad to hear that. Hope you'll be voting for us as Top Rated ISP for 2016, in that case ;)

Ah, nice. Definitely not nice to have to pay for a higher line in those circumstances :(
