Afrihost New Network Feedback

Still doesn't make what you said a fact - as much as you want to believe that it does.

Unless you are a network engineer @ AH.

It also doesn't make it any less true, does it?

belief has nothing to do with it.... observe the evidence.

EDIT: Patterns of repetitive behaviour, "usually" produce the same outcome... my use of the word "FACT" is based on a previous comment made in this forum by one of the AH reps that layer 7 prioritisation is in effect during peak times (ie. when the network is constrained). That is not my belief, that... is a FACT :p

But;

Prioritisation <> Shaping

:p

You know you can argue all you want the fact is there is an issue that affects certain users on the AH network at a specific time each day. What I cannot understand is why no one will actually admit that there is an issue, or a system has been put in place due to technical issues, and then we know what is going on. No system will do things at specific times unless instructed, and then on specific accounts. As I have proven with a different users AH account I do not have issues. These findings were sent to Support, and I am waiting for feedback.

Was the different account also a business uncapped account?

Because as I posted earlier in this thread the business uncapped product page clearly states that priority is given to "business" traffic - P2P torrent traffic will not been seen as business traffic and thus will be given a lower priority on AH's network....

In which case the account is working exactly as advertised - well that's how I see the matter and how I suspect AH support see it as well.

If im correct Capped users and Uncapped business should be put into the same "rule pool". IE they both should act in the exact same way when it comes to downloading, streaming and p2p downloads.

But it seems they arnt in the same pool.

It stands to reason that the business packages would prioritise business protocols - if you are aiming your product at the business market there is specific traffic you are going to need to give higher priority on your network.

For the home capped accounts it should be fair game for all traffic.

You have just highlighted my point... your link literally gives the difference between shaping and throttling/rate limiting.

If you look at my first post in its entirety, I mentioned that after using the AH CZ to reset my line, torrents were at full speed for exactly 10 minutes. Then the speed dropped to crawl before dying. The same torrent with less seeds then "magically" went to full speed at exactly 22:00. Now, as I understand it, the dynamic shaper / prioritisation requires a certain amount of traffic to pass for the policy to become/come into effect. When speeds on one protocol are crap for the exact time period on a regular basis (ie. EVERY evening for 19:00 till 22:00), that indicates a specific set of rules being applied (policy) on the edge routers by AH's network management software. This in effect is a SHAPING POLICY.

I am not the only one to know this... there are others, even ISP owners on this site, even in this specific thread that have confirmed this.

...and yet, they do not always perform the same, at the same times. I have both Capped and Business Uncapped products, along with 5 other ISP accounts (not free test accounts)....

Well that is why i deactivated business prioritization in the client zone :)

Would be nice to know which cable is down, SAT3 or WACS or both?

Might explain us Durban Users problem.

But According to Afrihost Durban uses EASSy, so not sure.

Also #AfriTeam seem to have gone MIA?

It's probably AH kit that is broken somewhere - I'm sure we'd see a lot of MyBB users complaining if one of the undersea cables was broken.
