"lovely" speeds again tonight :( :(

Not seeing any improvement on POC network. Seems like I will forever be cursed by dreaded exchange congestion :'(

PS 4Mbps ADSL line.

Hi Afriguy

You asked me to do a traceroute to the scamral site... I can do a tracertoute, but it still times out from my Afrihost connection.
Works fine if I switch to another network.

no exchange congestion there by the looks of it

Is ping the only factor that determines congestion? Maybe the exchange is just over subscribed? Throttling? I give up really. One week my speeds are great the next it slows to a crawl *sigh*

/starts digging own trench for fiber connection.

yea, that and packet loss. Looks like a bit of an ISP speed issue there, Best thing would be to test with another ISP. Crystal Web/Web Africa offer 1 gig trial accounts which you can sign up for and test.

Youtube is buffering on 720p....
Http downloads are running at half the speed...
So something is definately up...

R.I.P streaming for anyone not in JHB, all my people from CPT we should just move up country it seems.

Or to another ISP, Afrihost has never cared about the Cape, Jhb is the cash cow.
I have had pure Internet Joy (and not from Afrihost) for 7 days now, streaming without buffering every night and that is with the TV a PC and the kids on a Surface Pro and an IPad, all 4 streaming at once on a 10Mbit line.

Silly question, why all the complaints, why not just move off the POC network (proof of concept OR piece of crraap network)

Hi Afriguy, following on from here

I had a change of mind and a free evening so i decided to sign up for your POC network. First impressions are that things are much improved

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4559826026

I do have higher pings and slow downs on all services from time to time though.

Thanks for the feedback.

We are still having to periodically make changes and updates on the AfriGreen network, and this can result in dips in performance from time to time.

We're also working on getting the DNS for AfriGreen running better, so that should improve in the coming days.

Yep I gave up they are both buffering like a bitch!

Could you send me a PM with your account details please, your streaming should definitely not have that bad last night. We definitely need to look into this.

For the moment everyone on AfriGreen is connecting to the IPC in the North, so our AfriGreen testers in the South and East will have a bit of added latency, but once the full roll-out commences, IPC will be deployed to the East and South ensuring that performance at least matches that being seen in the North.

Which streaming services were you having issues with?

I'm really not sure where this idea started that we care less about our Clients in the Cape, but it definitely does not have a hint of truth to it. We value all of our Clients greatly, and we wouldn't be aggressively pursuing the PoCs if this wasn't the case. Our Cape Users have not had the best performance at times - and this disappoints us all greatly - but we will make sure that once our PoC is fully rolled-out that ALL of our users will receive the very best broadband offering possible.

Then why can't you roll out a PoC in Cape Town? It would make everyone's international latencies lower, since you guys terminate in Cape Town/London?
