I have a 4M uncapped account. Today is the 1st and am suppose to be starting on a clean slate.
However, instead of the >400KB/s I usually get on my downloads, I'm maxing at 16KB/s!
I haven't even reached the download threshold where throttling is suppose to start. I know there's a new policy whereby punishment is meted out to "repeat offenders" for previous sins (heavy downloads). Could this be the case? Could the Afrihost gods be now rehabilitating us with their rod of correction? Has their wrath finally descended upon us? Is this a reminder of who's in charge here?

I've smsd the 32541 and I expect to hear from them within an hour (as promised on their office number answering machine). I'm not too hopeful. I see my promising relationship with Afrihost coming to an abrupt end very soon....

Same issue.. Would like some clarification before I cancel this utter shyte

As expected, the 1-hour promises is just talk...nothing more, nothing less!
I've logged a ticket and will keep you posted.

I'm in the same boat... 12kb/s max (4meg uncapped), didn't think they would throttle us this badly :(

i was throttled and on the 1st @ 12:15 restarted my modem and my speed was fast again.

Can't believe that you guys are still stuck with AH, myself and four friends cancelled our uncapped accounts.

The response was the same email with the "new" policy(see below). I have asked them to cancel my account.

Good day xxxxxxx

I trust that you are well.:)

As per the new terms and conditions of the uncapped accounts that was sent out on the 18th of June, your account is being managed. I have included the information here:

Please note that our Uncapped ADSL terms of service
and the way we manage these packages will be changing
from the 1st of July.

Our uncapped accounts will be managed each day on an
hourly basis depending on the capacity available on our
network at that time.

Why are we making this change?

We have a certain capacity available on our ADSL network
for all of our Capped and Uncapped ADSL clients - If the
network is congested and slow at any time we will dynamically
manage our biggest uncapped users to ensure the best
experience for all clients across our network.

How will we do this?

We monitor our overall network usage on an hour to hour basis
and if our capacity is stretched we will dynamically shape and
throttle certain clients' uncapped accounts to relieve congestion.
These uncapped clients will be chosen based on their historic
bandwidth usage.

Who will this affect?

Based on our usage patterns over the last few months we have
calculated that this will affect 7% of our client base.

Uncapped users who have used the most bandwidth will start to
be throttled first if there is network congestion.

Capped accounts will never be throttled and will always be
unshaped and unthrottled.

If I am one of the top 7% will I always be throttled?

This depends on the usage of our network during any given
hour - We evaluate our capacity each hour and if capacity
opens up we will unthrottle uncapped users who may have
been throttled until such a time that the capacity is maxed
out again.

What if I am one of the 7% affected and I'm not happy?

If you need to get full speed consistently no matter your
usage then your best bet is to convert to a Capped ADSL
package that best suits your needs. You can instantly
change your package by logging into your Client Zone.

We understand that this may not be ideal for you and if you
are unhappy with your service then you can cancel your
account at any time of the month before the 26th and your
account will be cancelled from the 1st of the next month.

Will this affect me if I am on a capped account?

No - Your capped account will always be unshaped and
unthrottled. We will always give you as much speed as
your line and our network allows.

The reality is that currently 7% of our clients have the potential
to negatively affect the service of the other 93% of our clients.

We need to change our terms so that we can manage this as
well and as fairly as possible - It is our goal to ensure the best
possible experience for both the biggest and smallest of our
clients given the parameters we have.

If you have any questions please let us know.

Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

OK, so since I'm probably the 7%, they throttled me?
Yay me for thinking I can get away with 90-100GB a month with my UNCAPPED

I'm on an Afrihost CAPPED package on a 4meg line and my speedtests are reporting between 3 and 9kbps down and +-300kbps up.

Very strange, and very irritating

Right so here I have used 532MB so far this month on 4096 Uncapped Afrihost. Speedtest shows this
866356091.png
, thats 0.99Mb/s

I mean WTF are these idiots thinking. I mailed them and this retarded idiot mailed this back:

Afrihost is great for gaming.. i can play fps games that are based in europe.. very nice

But I am Capped so my connection is unshaped etc ;D

I think the strategy is to get rid of all uncapped accounts. It's plain and simple.

Can't believe that you guys are still stuck with AH, myself and four friends cancelled our uncapped accounts.

Where did you move to? I am tired of Afrihosts cr@p but don't know which ISP to move my uncapped account to..?

Consensus here is MWeb, and I have to agree. Fast gaming, fast downloads, no hidden agenda FUP. MWeb truly does offer UNCAPPED. They shape according to network demand to keep it fair, but they NEVER decide to tell you that you've had your share and cut you at the knees.

I use Afrihost 384 uncapped.
Some throttling during the day, but not after hours (so far).
No problems for me (so far).

Give it time, it will change soon enough...

Been with them since inception of their uncapped accounts... just feel that there should be balance to the thread.

Their customers who are happy with their uncapped service mostly do not join threads to detail their good experiences.

So have I, only downloaded 24 gigs last month but ended up being throttled to 6KBps from the 20th of last month, this excludes the non existence of browsing capabilities. Seriously, this is not uncapped, its a farking rip off.
