Afrihost Pure DSL

I've just found out from our neighbourhood Whatsapp group that Openserve is officially starting their fibre installation in our area next week. We've had surveyors from Nokia/Huawei coming to inspect all the Telkom poles, presumably where they're going to string the fibre along. @cavedog, do you think that could put a spanner in the works with my ADSL order? It'll probably be a few months before the fibre goes live anyway, so I would want to carry on with the order, but I wonder if Openserve will cancel my order now that it's been officially confirmed that they will be deploying fibre in my area.

I do not think they will cancel orders if the area is planned however that it totally up to Openserve if they do make such decisions

@AfriFella or @AfriGuy or @cavedog

can you please assist? I ordered puredsl line on 11 June. I have an existing adsl line through Telkom. On your website it clearly states the puredsl line is separate and I should cancel my existing line once the puredsl line is active.

I contacted afrihost WhatsApp helpline and the person is telling me I have to cancel my current line or it wont go through...

Ok so some feedback....but let me first say from the outset, @cavedog you have been fabulous! Thank you

My line was activated yesterday but was modulating at ADSL2+ instead of VDSL2. @cavedog has been on Openserve's case for a couple days now and its finally modulating at VDSL2.

However, there's quite a few differences in speed which I'm hoping gets ironed out. On my"non-naked" capped line I was consistently getting 19mbps down with 4mbps up. On this new line, which is on the spare two copper cables, I'm not quite getting the same.

I have plugged my router in to both two lines and have used both pppoe although the naked one won't connect on non-naked line, but non-naked one connects on naked one (hope you following).

Below is some stats from my router

First picture are the stats from my "non-naked" capped account.

Second picture is when connected to the"naked"Pure DSL. It made no difference when connected to it whether I was using my new pppoe details or old, the speed tests were the same. Again, @cavedog has been great and I am hoping we can tweak some things to get this naked line better as they come from the same exchange in the same wire in to the same box in my house.

@cavedog saved the day. I am now getting the same stats that I had pretty much.

So I am now a happy Pure DSL user with about 19.2 mbps download and 2.3 mbps upload. The difference in upload speed is now 1 mbps slower than what it was but that is negligible for the sake of being on the Pure network.

@cavedog ignored my marriage proposal though, guess you can't win them all :)

So now to cancel bundled dsl line with Afrihost and then voice with Telkom

Glad I could help. Now uncapped unshaped unthrottled internet is all yours ;)

Sorry to hear man.. Openserve is notorious for their lack of urgency and making excuses to justify bad levels of service delivery.

If it makes you feel any better there are many of us here in the forum who are going through the exact same thing.. The long walk to freedom (internet) continues my friends:ROFL:
The problem I'm facing is actually not with Openserve, its with Afrihost. It took them 10 days to process the order and tell Openserve to come and install the line.

What aggravated me so much was one of the Afrihost customer support reps telling me that they will process my order when they get to it.

I apologise for that. That is NOT how we deal with clients and we have let you down big time and while you have lost some time on the installation I hope we can make it up to you going forward.

Right now orders for Pure DSL are placed manually on the portal. In some cases even a manual order can not be placed and we need to log a ticket with Openserve to place an order where there might be an address mismatch or the map only provides 4Mbps when 10 or 20Mbps are available and the client is requesting those packages. In other cases the map shows coverage but when placing an order there does not show any coverage. These processes causes delays when signing up.

I would like to see what happened and try to assist where I can. Can you send me a pm with your clientzone email so I can see what went wrong?

@cavedog - thank you

what happens if Afrihost Pure DSL is cancelled, can u migrate to another service provider

Yes so with Pure DSL if you cancel it will be pushed to the holding pool and a new ISP can take the line from the holding pool however it can only be migrated from Naked dsl to naked dsl if that makes sense. So you can switch between the old ADSL system which is called Copper Connect to the new which is called Pure Connect so by looking at the ISPs that are offering Pure connect the choices are pretty limited.

I hope we have not lost you as a client so I will do my best to get you sorted asap. I do apologise that it had to come to this so I can only hope you allow us to make it up to you going forward. :)

Thank you, your assistance has been great, the best i've received, compared to that from your support/technical/accounts team that were lost in the short grass, the progress we have made in the last hour outshines the frustration of the last two weeks. Thx again.

And here is the start to another week of my plunge into insanity. Waiting, waiting, waiting for an install from Openserve. I've lost count but it's either week 4 or 5? Is this refusal from Openserve a threat so that I should cancel my Pure DSL with Afrihost? Who knows...

Dont worry dude! You and I are in the exact same boat. (I presume, if your order was processed through on the 11th June, like mine)

If my calculations are correct, they technically have until tomorrow the 30th to call the both of us to be within the 14 business day turnaround time..

Lets just keep our fingers crossed @mathebus! If we dont get a call by wednesday then we really do have a legitimate reason to lose our **** :ROFL:

Just waiting on my router to arrive now and username + password from Afrihost
