Afrihost Pure DSL

Most clients gets installed pretty quickly but there are some clients experiencing delays or cancelled orders. Cancelled orders are usually due to cable theft or the area ADSL being discontinued.

True - but quite a few in the cape town area have been given the run around by openserve. I also tried to get puredsl. My order was cancelled and my feedback received was also cable theft but I currently have adsl so i'm inclined to believe some of the feedback is hogwash..eventually cancelled as I had waited almost a month..

Unfortunately DSL is not a focus point of Openserve. They have made this option available to ISPs to sell DSL in areas that already has copper that they are maintaining. In areas that might have given them some headache to maintain they will likely not provide new installation for and that is at their discretion. As an ISP we can place orders and follow up on them as best we can but if Openserve says no infrastructure then it's pretty much out of our hands.

yep which is why I'm itching to ditch openserve and the Telkom stable..by moving to fibre or 5g.

I just feel openserve is giving customers / ISP's a raw deal. unfortunately the orders get placed with the ISP so someone has to take the flak.

Hi, just skimmed through all the threads.

I'm no the most knowledgeable person when it comes to ADSL. although I did set up my parents ADSL with Openserve as the ISP then later changed it to webafrica.

Basically, I ordered the Pure DSL 10mb deal because I need a bit of consistency. Also waiting for Fibre to be rolled out and will be in about 3 months or so. So far from what I read, there are issues with Pure DSL as well.

I ordered 27 June, it was installed the line and tested it last week Friday 17 July. The technician didn't setup my router because I had a few appointments to get to. I set it up later the evening once I read through the steps on the afrihost help site. The login details wasn't working and I reset it a few times trying to get the router to connect.

In the end Afrihost said the line wasn't authenticating, this was on Saturday 18 July. Luckily I spoke to the technician and he suggested bringing his VDSL modem to make 100% sure he installed the line correctly. He came over the sunday morning 19 July, plugged in his modem. I logged in with his details and it worked perfectly. Browsed and checked if I could watch Youtube videos and such. Line works, it authenticates, just need to connect to ISP using ISP's login details.

Moving on. Sunday I explained this to the person who I submitted my ticket to (Ticket number: RGY-383-60531). They replied with test login detailsl. An openserve domain and telkomadsl domain, both not working. So I eventually said, maybe I'm not setting up the router correctly? I got a message on Monday stating that Afrihost will try their best from their end to get the connection sorted.

The problem that I have is that my Login details doesn't take. I might have set it up incorrectly but this isnt rocket science to me, especially when there are guides on the net on how to set this up.

A day later Still waiting. I even replied saying I'm working nightshift this week so if anything needs to happen on site, I'm at home and awake from 11am and leave around 5:30pm.

I am a very patient and knowledgeable person. What is the actual issue?

No response as yet and I'm getting quite gatvol to be honest.

EDIT: Look at that, this is my first post and It's not giving advice.

Hey,

I want to help you. Did you check the VPI and VCI settings?

I see the pppoe details have been reset quite a few times already

thank you for the quick response.

As the site explains. Afrihost help
VPI = 8
VCI = 35

Earlier I change the DNS from auto to these since... why not. DNS Configs

I have sent you 2 emails with some tests we can do. If that fails I will log a fault for you. I see the line stats aren't that good maybe that could be an issue but let's try using the Openserve guest logins and see if those work.

I'm busy with them now. I'm using the same setup as before to no joy. Like I said, it could be something I'm doing wrong. hopefully we can have some sort of issue as to what the problem is.
Without knowing the issue, I don't see how it can be fixed.

Okay please do let me know. If we fail I can log a fault with Openserve but I just want to make sure we go through the settings first. Might also be the actual modem that can be faulty.

thank you, maybe the modem but I have no way of knowing since there are no error logs. Sent through the necessary details for settings and such. Hopefully I can get the answer as to what the problem is soon.

Just an update. Sorted it out today and its working ok for the moment. I didnt get chance to test i correctly yet because night shift.

Thank you @AfriNatic / Support. It was a combination of line issues and incorrectly setup (My bad), I think it should be stated somewhere never to use the setup wizard for these kinds of things. thanks again.

Going to cancel now and look at alternatives. Scary to think that no one can give an answer at all, so frustrating.

What seems to be the issue?

what happened?

edit: they still haven't installed?

Yeah no installation, I've been waiting since 16 June. I knew it was going to be a long wait, but I can't just sit around and wait another 6 weeks and hope to get lucky.

I have 5 people waiting to have iut installed aswell but they ordered when I ordered. 25 June. I had the technician here last friday. Installed but loggin issues till wednesday. I set the router up incorrectly.

But waiting a full month I would have reached out to them till I get some sort of response. Or reach the higher ups to push it further.

I've been in contact may times, no one can give me an answer.

So installation scheduled for tomorrow morning. And that's only happening (touch wood) cause I got lucky with getting the local technicians phone number.
