Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

@Afrigirl please assist with AH3E390416BCA5 - AfriHost has control of the line but wont release pppoe details. We can PM if that will help

Just testing the Afrihost trial account on Openserve, one login gets 191ms ping to a gaming server in Germany, logging out and in gets 201ms, tried again at it's 207ms now. My current Cool Ideas is 175ms.

I recall something about some IP addresses having higher ping than others, is this still the case? Is there a way to get better ping?

I seem to have randomly lost internet at 04:15 AM this morning (DHCP). Logged into my console around 6AM toggled DHCP on/off and I had internet again.

Could the team possibly assist with a "what went wrong" I unfortunately didn't have the deepest level of logging enabled to via anything more than a disconnect.

You can try the CPT pptp server to see if the latency improves a bit.

@AfriNatic @Afrigirl Please can you check my line, disconnected again from the internet. I also now have a different public IP than what Afrigirl assigned to me earlier?

I highly doubt a line issue, I didn't have a single disconnect with CISP over the near 2 years so just want to see whats going on here. I have done the activate URL thing twice already.

** Found out the wife was browsing on the iPad and again got the Activation redirect on her iPad to login at 17:50. Not sure why my IP has changed and when it will happen again.

which router do you have?

Ubiquiti Dream Machine,

Almost feels like its re-authing the whole time against a different mac address (I didn't take note of the mac I was authorizing the previous time when the activate window was show, I screenshot it now)

Network-wise, nothing is changing and the ONT is still in the WAN of the DM.

Have you tried restarting the ONT? I gave mine a reboot after switching over. Myself personally, line has been really stable with no packet loss.

Makes sense. You are authenticating the mac address of the router. Not sure why yours is changing.

I had @Afrigirl assist me with a static internet IP (which is also now not the IP my activate. portal was showing and nor is it the same IP in my WAN settings on the router) but yeah, I have in short rebooted :)

Im just keen to get to the bottom of it because beyond that, line has been rock solid!

100% explains the different IP too. The "why" it's changing part is just baffling! Found an older post mentioning something similar but I think it was resolved in DM with Natic so couldn't get much further and naturally most of the other solutions are for stock standard routers.

@Afrigirl @AfriNatic,

I'm migrating from CI. Placed the order 2 days ago.

How long until I can become active - not having much success with support. Octotel confirmed all good their side. Just waiting on Afrihost now to complete the migration / activate.

Can you check if you can push it through. I need connectivity because WFH.

Order number: AFR37322

I'm just noticing something now. My router is picking up a completely different IP from what I have showing as active on speedtest.net or on whatismyip. Very strange.

Sounds like your router is leaking DHCP to the ONT.

We use DHCP. Most devices use DHCP to get an IP from a router so if these devices leak their DHCP discover packets to our DHCP server we will issue them a lease and redirect you to the activation page because we don't know who you are.

Please make sure you don't have any LAN/WAN bridges configured. Make sure that your router is the ONLY device requesting a lease from our DHCP server.

Hi

This order has been activated.

Which router do you use? Please set the WAN connection mode from PPPoE to DHCP/Dynamic IPv4/IPv6 Dual stack and once you get an ip visit https://login.afrihost.com/activate.php from the connection to activate the line.

This means you could have a natted IP.

Let me give you a public.
