Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

@Afrigirl I seem to be having issues streaming via the Infuse app connected to OneDrive on both AppleTV and iPhone. It appears I'm being rate limited because my average speeds are about 2Mbps.

When I download any of the video files directly from OneDrive I don't encounter the speed problem.

What could be happening here?
Hello.

Please drop me a PM so I can check which IP you have.

The 2 CPT servers, rate limit queries due to high increase and that is why ICMP is not priority
Thanks. I'm fully aware how networks operate and ICMP being the lowest priority. My issues are the over 1 second delay in DNS resolution for a few minutes at a time and therefore causing sites having to be reloaded. I've gone now as far as to not use your DNS servers as they are unreliable.

To add - This increase in issues has only be prevalent since May this year

Noticed my Adguard processing time sitting at 200ms+ with Afrihost DNS.

Back to 30ms with quad9.

Something definitely aint right here.

Are these graphs latency to the DNS server from your connections, or are they actually DNS query look-up times?

Hi @Afrigirl . Has there been any news on this front? I have seen no improvement on international speeds my side. 200/200 Balwin fiber
Hey @Afrigirl . I tested again using different test sites and London servers. Here are the results. It makes working with data on international servers quite slow.

I am regularly having speed drops on my 200/200 openserv account to be 100/100 (I'll notice that 100mbit is fastest that I can download, reboot my router and then back up to 200/200 again), is this a known issue going around ?

Could be the router or LAN cable. How are you connecting? Wi-Fi? Try with a CAT5e cable between the computer and the router when you have this issue.

Nothing to do with the lan transfer speeds, CAT6, gigabit transfer speed between home server and pc just internet that gets affected

Support got back to me but by the time I could follow the instructions my speed had dropped back down to 100mbps (it had been stably 200 for 12 hours or so then dropped down again), the instructions being the usual restart, connect pc direct, visit a activate url (Where I got the error message I have put below). Of course, the speed test is showing 200Mbps now (as re-connects fix this issue) so I expect a "Everything is running fine" response. The message from afrihost is strange though (This is there if connected direct via pc or via router PPPOE)

Router configuration problem

Your router claims the IP address IP HERE which is not assigned to it. Please check that your router using DHCP in routing mode, and then restart it.

With Openserve you can not connect direct to the ONT due to the need for PPPoE authentication, unless if you set up a PPPoE broadband connection on your computer and using that to authenticate. That is why you get that error when going to activate.afrihost.com

When I test my line, I am connected to the router with a cable, mainly because I am way too lazy to set up a Broadband connection on my PC. You can do that when you experience the issue without restarting so it does not reset.

Can anyone of you more technical savvy users please advise me - my dad is on Openserve and wants to use Ping Plotter on Windows to test for packet loss to and from the DSTV Stream cache server. What would the string be he needs to enter to do such a test? TIA

Can anyone perhaps advise what the process is when switching ISP's? My brother is moving from Mweb to AfriHost. Yesterday was the last day with Mweb, he lost connection exactly at 12pm.

How will he know if Mweb released his fibre line?

@Afrigirl can you perhaps advise?

You could get in contact with MWEB and ask if they have released the line, if not, ask them to do it immediately

Thank you I will advise him to contact them.
Make sure to push them quite a bit, Afrigirl should also be able to assist if the service has been terminated and they still hold the line, they should be able to take over

Yes, service was terminated last night hence he is assuming that Mweb released the line.

Hello.

May I have the order reference please, if the line has been released we should be able to place an order now.
