Log into the router
Click on My Wi-Fi
Click on the button to separate the bands.

You can also skip that and enable Wi-Fi 5 and set up your 2nd network on that.

You can also enable the guest network.

Many options to try 😛

Yeah, there are 2 fields. However, as I previously said, you cannot spilt the 2.5g from the other bands. There is no option to select a name or password for the second WiFi. This is basic at it's worst!

If you switch the prioritize 5Ghz off then it splits it.

I'm In Durban on Vuma and cannot get the 100ms to the IP above, still get a good 127ms though

I never had packet loss, just 10ms jitter. Everything works fine. Not a gamer though.

It's a bit complicated. We use 2 x upstream providers to reach other networks outside of South Africa. Openserve and Liquid Telecoms.

Riot Games in Dubai learn our routes from both of these providers but not directly. They learn them through a 3rd party because neither Openserve or Liquid Telecoms has a direct route to Dubai. Only Liquid Telecoms has a direct route to Fujairah.

Between Fujairah and Dubai is about 2ms max if it's direct.

Now when I logged a ticket with Riot Games they have 5 routes back to us from Dubai. 3 via Liquid and 2 via Openserve each using various networks they peer with and tier 1 service providers.

The lowest latency route is Riot Games <> DataMena <> Liquid Telecoms (Fujairah) <> Durban. This is not the preferred path in BGP though so there are some intermittent route changes causing the latency to bounce around from 220ms all the way down to 99ms.

You can have a look at it from here for now


I have not set up a password yet but keeping an eye on it. Riot Games are not willing to make any changes to accommodate us and we tried all the bgp techniques we can from our side to optimize as best we can so latency to Riot Games Dubai might still be intermittent.

Still the current ping is great compared to Playing on EU servers

Was curious so if we want the best chance of getting that 100ms we should use the VPN ? Or is that just intermittent across everything
 
Anyone else in CPT experiencing PL to quad9 DNS during peak? Traffic is picked up in Jozi as well.1000092319.jpg
 
Hi, I need some help! I’ve got a 300 Mbps (Down) and 200 Mbps (Up) fibre line through Afrihost with Octotel. There are 5 adults in my house, and we each have a smartphone.

Here's what we've got connected:
  • 4 TVs (some through media players/set-top boxes)
  • Work laptop
  • 4 mobile devices at any given time
But I’m only getting about 89 Mbps (Down) and 93 Mbps (Up) on average. I’ve never been able to hit the speeds I’m paying for. I'm only able to achieve these speeds when plugged in straight to the ONT device. Any ideas on how to boost my speeds? Is it just because all these devices are sucking up bandwidth?

I’ve been going back and forth with Afrihost on many occasions, running speed tests and all, but still no luck.

Hi.

Which router are you using? You can share the ticket reference so I can see what has been done and previous tests to the ONT.

This sounds like something is limiting you, make sure you don't have any CAT5 cables being used as you need minimum CAT5e for over 100Mbps
