Why has YT been sucking donkey balls lately? Much motherbuffer.

DBN, MFN, 250mbps line. As usual, WARP fixes this.
 
Observation: If I keep 720p, buffer builds up to 100s.

If I keep 4k, buffer builds up to 10s.

I have no idea if this is normal. I never look at stats for nerds unless I'm forced to when **** starts buffering and I have to become an IT expert.

This has been going on for a while, at least a week or more.

*Disclaimer, I've had no buffering tonight (since my first post) but I've been using a mix between 720-2160p (for testing purposes, and music is fine on 720p).

Anyway, this has been irritating me for a few weeks now, and now I'm bring it to the forum's attention so that it can get a spotlight shone on it.

4k YouTube seems ok for me lately. Using Openserve in Durban. It has its moments though. I reckon it's been good my side for the past week.

I hate to admit it, but my YouTube woes that I complained about here were actually because of my TV. 5ghz band is poked on it for some reason. 2.4 is stable.

Unrelated q for anyone who has done this before. When moving fibre line from one house to another, does the same 30 day calendar month notice bs apply? Pretty much moving down the road so FNO will be the same.

Yes, the problem is very random, so random that I have had to school myself on reading the stats for nerds numbers.

I'm not used to YT buffering on my MFN 250mbps line, so when it happens, my immediate do to is to turn on warp, which immediately sorts the problem out, and since I don't have a "problem" anymore, I don't feel the need to track down the AH thread and get all angry on it, until today.

Today I decided enough is enough and I must do my civic duty and kick up a stink because the length of time this issue has been carrying on for is unacceptable.

I'm also not sure if they are aware of the issue as the last time I looked at the thread was like 6 months ago, so when I tracked it down and logged in I 100% expected other people also bitching about YT buffering.

I must admit that I only looked at the last page of posts (about 5, all bitching about dns gaming servers, thank goodness I'm not a gamer). Only games I've ever rocked are those strategy types like Civilization, Star Craft and the (back to my youth) Dune 2000. Anyway, that was 20 years ago, now I'm too lazy to do anything other than binge movies and series for free.

Anyway, now here we are. I find it hard to believe that AH are not aware of an issue with YT in dbn. But enough is enough, I've given them a couple of weeks and it hasn't gone away, so my question to them (@AfriNatic), are you aware of an issue or does it only land on your radar when someone freeks out?




Just to describe the problem, YT (4k) works 99.9999% of the time, until it doesn't which is very frustrating but am very experienced now with the fix solution which is F5 (plan A, but one must take note of where one is on the timeline so no time is wasted getting back to where things were before the 90's struck), but sometimes refreshing proves fruitless, then in comes ol' faithful warp (plan B), which 99.9999999999999% of the time sorts it out but I hate using it as I don't like some corporate american company having a leg over me.

Corporations are the ones who will end the world as we know it. They already control governments with their "lobbying" (money).

Why do politicians need "money" when they campaign?

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, but I'm in East London. I'll watch a series episode or two on Netflix, with no problem whatsoever, then switch to Youtube for a bit of surfing. Only then does my TV start buffering every so often, and being a TV there's no F5, not that that should be an option.

PS. Where do you find movies and series' on Youtube?

I use Kodi/Seren/Real Debrid for movies and series.
 
Hi @Afrigirl @AfriNatic please assist. I am trying to help a family member get Fibre installed in a security estate. They did a manual update on the order saying there is no Fibre. I was at the premises and there definitely is fibre installed already and the previous owner used Telkom as the ISP. The estate has Openserve infrastructure and I contacted their office to confirm that any ISP could be used in conjunction. Please advise what you would need to try and assist here?

I had a look I don't see anything concerning on our cache. We have 2 cache servers in Teraco that fills from our JHB, CPT and JHB Google NNI and the fill has 100% fill rate no restransmits so even if content is uncached it should be good still.

Can you confirm if you are still served from the DUR cache?

I was going to chime in saying Youtube had been flawless for a long, long time, but Murphy's Law or perhaps related to wingnut's post, Youtube has been buffering like mad today, even on 1080p videos.

On further examination, this seems to be the same thing that was happening a while ago. Older videos seems to be fine, it's recently uploaded videos (in the past couple of hours) which are either buffering madly or not playing at all. Perhaps a similar issue with delivery/ingestion of new content into your local caches?
