Latest on the subsea cable repair

Yesterday at 17:10 UTC, the cable buoy CB2 (BU MPT side) was deployed. Due to adverse weather and sea conditions, it was decided to postpone the recovery of the MNZ side cable end until conditions allowed. However, the jointing of the intermediate joint (IMJ) was able to continue and the IMJ was completed at 05:45 UTC this morning. The vessel has been on standby since 05:45 UTC this morning. Conditions are being monitored and as soon as conditions allow, the vessel will resume operations with the MNZ side cable recovery and clearance. ETR is tentatively on 31-Aug24, pending weather or any unforeseen incident.

Hi.

Are you still experiencing high latency?
Hello.

Still seeing packet loss from an afrihost node but it's on the next hop now. With regard to the other hops, do you by any chance have any info regarding these problems internationally?

This is due to the cable on EASSy between Mtunzini and Mozambique.
The network routing for people in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is being redirected through Johannesburg (JHB) > Cape Town (CPT) > London (LON) adds significant latency, and potential for packet loss.

Latency is fine, this isn't latency, this is actual loss of packets, with the internet going down during those red bands, nothing accessible.

I’m getting massive packet drops every few seconds here. Will work fine and then nothing for a few seconds, and then it works fine for about 10 to 15 seconds.

It has been logged with Openserve Tier 2
Is this still an issue? It feels like my internet is dropping and coming back every minute.

Also have a bit of a question to the AH bigwigs - if this is an issue, why isn't it on the network status page? So many issues don't go there, which lead to me coming here to see if others are experiencing issues. I am sure there are many who would hound support if this was during office hours.

Unfortunately, we can't put it up on the notice page until we have confirmation from the FNO.

Anyone on Openserve Webconnect via Afrihost that can tell me if they got their CCTV successfully streaming remotely particularly a Hikvision NVR?.

Yes same here, in KZN on Openserve as well.

Using the ezviz app. Hikvision also won't connect. Connecting the DVR to a Vodacom LTE router and using the same phone, no problems works 100%.

Connecting the DVR back to the Afrihost connection on Openserve, can't access the cameras.

I am unsure of what server the DVR is trying to reach, no IP or Hostname listed in the settings, so I can't even run a trace route...

Have you tried the Hik-Connect app ?

Also are you on Openserve web connect ? If so maybe it’s the lack of a public ip
