@Afrigirl was the Openserve migration successful?

Will we be able to request Public IP allocation should all go as planned and the cut over is successful?

Does Afrihost have any plans on offering IPv4 subnets for multiple Static IP's directly via PPPoE?

I believe this will be technically possible once migration to the new BNG's is complete.

I dont want to start a new thread so I will put it here. I have been on Afrihost for years on good old ADSL, it was very fine for my needs. The other day I got a visit from Telkom about the whole stopping of the copper line and moving to fibre thing. I am not a fan of Telkom so thats why I am here with some questions:

1) The one big question is how they get the line into your house? There are people in the house that are very uncomfortable in drilling holes into the walls of the house or digging up the garden. In the AI overview in the Google search there is this line:

"This process involves running a fibre optic cable from a nearby source (like a telegraph pole or underground) to a box on your wall, and then another cable inside to a powered unit that your router connects to."

Is the telegraph pole the pole outside your property where the electricity lines go in.

Does Openserver go through the telephone pole ?
Does Vumatel go through the box on the front wall outside the property ?

2) I have been hearing about these routerless packages where WI-FI is on the ONT. How good is this ? I often stream things on other TV's in the house

Yes, Openserve uses the existing telephone poles for fibre. When they did my installation they removed the telephone line from the pole to my house and ran the fibre line in it's place. They got into my ceiling and pulled the cable into my home office. Only 1 small hole in the corner of the ceiling where the line comes in to the termination box.

Vuma Core trenches to the house and puts the line in through the wall.

Regarding ONT with integrated Wi-Fi, don't do that. You get much better range and functionality than the integrated device, you have no access to the backend and can not set up the Wi-Fi credentials to your own.
 
Openserve migration to the new BNG's will be tried again next week Tuesday the 17th at 2am. We will monitor and if we see any issues we will rollback.

As before clients might get natted IPs during the migration window.
After the migration, I am getting log spam on my MikroTik with the following:

It seems that your BNG (or something else?) is sending IPv6 router advertisements containing an MTU of 1500 inside the RA, but the PPPoE link can only establish with an MTU of 1492, so the MikroTik complains. I tried to use RFC4638 with 1500 MTU on my PPPoE link but only the MRU was able to negotiate at 1500, the MTU stayed at 1492.

I am on Openserve with a Nokia ONT. Other than this issue, the internet on both IPv4 and IPv6 is working fine (got a /56 prefix now, thank you! Hoping for a static prefix soon!).

Quick question: my IP address is not NAT'ed after the upgrade. Will this be done at a later time, or am I ok for now?
