Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

We use 3 transit providers from JHB.

Cogent forward path (JHB to EU)

Openserve and Liquid telecoms reverse (EU to ZA)

Both reverse path providers have a mix of east and west coast cable systems and route traffic for different prefixes on our network differently. I will pick up a discussion with the team to see how we can go about engineering the best paths.
Thank you, if it was just a visual thing I wouldn't have bothered mentioning it but the ping in game also goes up the additional 20ms when the path changes and I don't remember it always being like this.

It was a solid ~170ms for the longest time and now it's on the 190ms for a couple of days and then 170ms just for a couple of hours before going back to 190ms.

Hey.

Would you mind if I asked something.

I’ve always been curious. Since I’m not an online gamer. Is there a big difference between 170ms and 190ms. It seems insignificantly small to me but I’ve always been genuinely curious how this 20ms latency affects the experience in-game.

Thanks.

(I'm not an online gamer) but it's a 10% increase. Competitively, possibly makes a difference? Also you set the mark at 170ms (with fluctuations?), it would be annoying to now go backwards and set it at 190ms?
just my 2 cents.

You'd be surprised, you can basically immediately feel it not necessarily just because of the 20ms lower ping but because of the way the game works as well.

So say at 170ms you just have that delay but then above 180ms the game starts doing additional things to compensate for your high ping so you start rubberbanding or desyncing because on your screen you're in one place but the server still says you're 2 steps behind that so it teleports you back.

Stuff like that, so it's not necessarily just the 20ms.

Is there any update from Vumatel as to when the slow speeds and nightly packet loss in East London are going to be resolved? I am downgrading my fibre from 1000/200 to 200/200 as I refuse to pay for a service I am not receiving. If by the end of February it is not resolved, I am moving to Frogfoot.

Last night was normal for me. But I'm not getting too excited yet. I'm also downgrading for the very same reason. Weirdly during this whole stuff-up there is no announcement about Easy London on the network status page.

Vuma Aerial Fibre keeps dropping the connection while I am playing COD MW2. Happened yesterday at a critical point and I lost everything I had worked for!! The same problem is back again that we have had for the past few months!!

Helped a little but still shite download speeds and normal'ish uploads.
20 minutes of my time wasted trying to recover from a service degradation... which didn't help
So we move on to the next step, but I would actually just like to carry on with what I wanted to do in the first place.

Die fokken company maak my fokken befok...

EL - between 18:00 and 21:59 - kak!
And when the clock strikes 22:00 - hey whaddaya know. I have the internet that I paid for. Not with monopoly money. Not with money that grow on trees. But with fokken blood, sweat and tears money.

I dont wanna say it's throttling, but...

I wonder if SJ's company is starting to throw its weight around...?

EAST LONDON/VUMATEL

Agh no! Now I don't know if it was my 20 minute power-off (as previously advised by a call-me-back technician) or the clock striking 10 that fixed my line
