Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

@AfriNatic No1. is interesting. Even on Openserve? Do you only meter IPv4 traffic? So if I look at my usage do I only see IPv4?

Hi

We map and count usage on Openserve. It's only a few FNO's like Vuma Reach. We rely on Vuma reach to send us the correct identifiers when doing user mapping because that is an L3 solution so we made a decision not to map those and so they don't get usage tracking on our portals.

Good day,

Brackenhurt, Alberton VUMA Villages has been down since yesterday afternoon - does anyone have any information on what the problem is, and how long it will take to resolve?

Thanks

My line went down during loadshedding and came back after - I called support and the agent is totally useless and says since its back up he doesn't have anything further to do. I want this escalated or I'll be dropping Afrihost as its not the first time this has happened and eish is not good enough.

I must say, Afrihost support has gotten frustrating - I'm going back to CISP

That sounds like the exchange in the area doesn't have a backup solution in place. That's the FNO's fault, not the ISP? So even changing ISPs isn't going to fix your issue if they use the same FNO. Just spitballing here...

I pay the ISP, not the FNO. ISPs job is to escalate these faults to the FNO for them to sort out. Going "eish so what must i do" on a 30 minute phone call is not sufficient.

Majority of what you pay goes to the FNO

Sure, but no other ISP will be able to sort it out either. That's the point.

Logging a fault so Openserve knows something is wrong is the ISPs job and the agent being too damn lazy to do that IS the ISPs issue. Openserve should have sufficient backup runtime which clearly isn't the case here - the ISP cannot fix it, they can however escalate a fault to the entity that can.

All you nerds coming to Afrihost's defense shows how cultish this forum has become. Sies.

Haha no, not coming to Afrihost's defense at all. If I was in your shoes I'd also be pissed off and look for someone to blame. While you're absolutely correct that it's Afrihost's problem to sort out seeing as you're paying them, the reality is that there's nothing they (or any other ISP) can do if the upstream FNO doesn't give a toss.

Harass the FNO, threaten them maybe.
ISPs being apathetic to FNO issues needs to stop, they're our only vent port as we're not allowed to contact the FNO.

Openserve does give a toss - they just need an actual fault being logged to act.

I sent an email with the logged fault # to some Openserve employees I've dealt with before. Hopefully one of them can use it to get the backup power on par.

Will be leaving Afrihost because this should not have taken 30 minutes with an argument over what the agent should do. Clearly undertrained and apathetic.

Thanks Afrihost and Openserve, seems I have already been upgraded from 100mbps to 150mbps

EDIT: Maybe I spoke to quickly. It seems this is Afrihost to Afrihost speedtest. If I test e.g. to MTN I get 100mbps

Hi

Yes Openserve has already upgraded the line speeds.

We are not done with the changes on our side yet. IPv6 traffic is unrestricted and that is why you get full speed to the Afrihost speedtest server because it has IPv6 enabled.

Good morning Guys

I have no internet since last night. Probably only the second fault in the last 3 years. Things have been very stable.

I note that the internet light on the Openserve ONT is off. All the other lights are green.

Any idea what this could be?
