Yeah doesn’t appear to be area wide but rather an issue with my line or profile, but getting AH to investigate it is a nightmare

I‘m in CPT, MPlain.

Its been years since I had any product from AH, and way back when, they were known for their awesome service!

My whole fibre sign up was a bit of a nightmare after installation, and now this. Somehow, my router deliver also got messed up....

Sorry to hear man, their network hasn’t been bad at all, but customer service levels aren’t great - this is the first time I’ve logged a fault since last year when signing up with them..

Looks okay. Sometime loss on a single ip does not mean there is loss on the line or the route. It could just be icmp related where the packet got dropped by the router and then your pc reads that as loss. That is why trace routes aren't that definitive when diagnosing network issues but it's a good start point.

Yeah I totally get you on this:thumbsup: this simple trace is routing to a device inside AH network so it will determine if there’s a problem with my line but it doesn’t look like the case. Whereas if I test to a device outside of AH network one can see lost starts at 169.1.21.1 And moves right through to the destination which states there’s a problem.

Hi,

Been using a Telkom 10MB ADSL for about 5 years. Whole household (x6 mobile devices, x2 Laptops, x2 Smart TVs and x2 DSTV Explora) runs on this and we are mostly fine. Slightly slow on downloading larger movies, however also been working from home since the Lockdown and spend almost all day in Microsoft Teams, Webex or Zoom meetings with no issues in voice. This all while my daughter is online studying at varsity and my wife watching the odd Netflix, Showmax or DSTV catchup. Really impressive... Well done Telkom ADSL!!!
Had a 25MB Pure Fibre Afrihost connected on Friday last week (Metrofibre Network) and the Afrihost DIR-825 router delivered. Was super exited as this is my first ever experience with Fibre. Obviously expectations were HIGH.
Connected and rund download speed. Wow around 35MB up and 35 down. This is really great, so I thought.
Come Sunday morning and we hook up to the church service via Zoom. What a disaster... could not hear the pastor preaching. Switch over to Telkom ADSL and everything is fine. Come Monday morning (25 May) and my meetings start. Can't hear what colleagues are saying and video is not great. They can hear and see me just fine.
Log a ticket with AH. Going though many 1st line support people and they all have the standard responses... restart everything (ONT and router) test again. Speedtest is fine (ping 7ms, 35MB up and 35 down). Well I have done this several times and same result. I think they simply don't understand where the issue is.
I am still experiencing poor quality and performance when using live systems such as Microsoft teams, Webex and Zoom. Its the inbound traffic that is an issue. Video and audio continue to break up (Garbled audio and pixelated/slow video). When I connect back to my old telkom supplied ADSL, there is no issue.
Really hoped that AH would be able to resolve other than me having to resort to this platform.
Cheers

Righto, line is back to normal again at this hour, no PL whatsoever and throughput is back to where it should be. 169.1.121.1 is reporting latency of 2ms atm, when my net takes a dive - latency to this hop spikes up to 10ms  @AfriGuy I simply need a tech on your side to take a glance at my line to see if anything isn’t normal, please - really hope that isn’t too much to ask for.

Can you do an extended ping to 165.73.113.1 for example ping 165.73.113.1 -t

I am back to normal this morning, full speed ahead.

I see what is meant by their service....got this reply from AH, even though I sent all the info they need last night:

"I hope you're well.

My apology for the inconvenience caused by this. Please see a solution to the problem you're experiencing, please run a speed test on speedtest.net and send the results.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot your internet connection.

Disconnect the CPE/ONT’s power supply.
Wait about 10 - 20 minutes for the ONT’s internal cache to clear.
Reconnect the CPE/ONT’s to the power supply.
What are the possible causes of Fibre issues?

Only one device on the network.
You need to make sure that your device you are testing with is the only device on the network.
This rules out rogue devices that might be doing update or caching content.

Use a LAN cable to test the speed.
Once you have done this, use a LAN cable to test the speed.
You should always get full line speed if your device is the only one on the network and it isn’t using data for something. "

Only thing I didn't do was disconnect CPE/ONT power for that long. Will monitor during the day and this evening.

Will try that extend ping if i run into any issues again.

Hi guys,

Anyone else experiencing full speed on national speedtests, i.e Cape town to Cape town, but horrible international speed tests?

Im on 500mb (bumped up for corona) on frogfoot / afrihost

Kind regards

Hi there, can you please DM your Clientzone email address to have a look?

Hi All,

Anyone having connectivity issues currently with Afrihost Fibre, on Octotel (Brackenfell/Kraaifontein area)?

Rebooted both ONT and Router but still no connection, all green on ONT so guess it's not a Octotel issue but rather Afrihost related? Logged into router and it's just showing "cannot get IP from DHCP server" under the WAN section.

@AfriGuy - Any ideas? Afrihost outage perhaps?

Octotel outage at the Node you connect to.

"We are aware that customers in the Cape Gate area connections are currently down.

Our network engineers are on site investigating and are working to restore
all connectivity as a matter of urgency.

We'll provide further feedback as soon as possible."
