It might seem like an Afrihost issue but it's not.

If you look at a MTR you would see that the traffic has left the Afrihost network when then google IPs start at 72.

If you do a comparative MTR from another network certain IPs might be the same but it doesn't mean the traffic follows the same route.

I have been in touch with our system engineer to see what can be done to alleviate the issue.

I mean, if other ISPs or using a VPN can fix the issue, how isnt an Afrihost issue

I ran traces from both Vox and Afrihost (forgot to post them...) to Google Drive and saw Afrihost take a route with lower pings but a ton of loss, while Vox took some crazy high ping route but had no loss, and performed much better than Afrihost so it might not be an Afrihost issue but Afrihost sure didn't manage it as well as Vox

I'm sure this will pass though

@Draken
ISP's all have their own routing setups, VPN's are on various networks which in turn have their own routing.

At some point you have to rely on who you have your peering agreement with to do their part and not be bad.
In this case its the other people who are having issues.

It just depends on what routing options an ISP may have available to them to switch to.

Edit: While its not an Afrihost issue its an issue for Afrihost to try make a plan since it affects their customers.

Odd but I found Windscribe's District server, which is hosted on Afrihost's network, to be just fine...

My Line is still a 50/50....and not 100/50 like it says on ClientZone:

I reset ONT but still the same.
Same issue! Clientzone shows 100mb, but line tests as 50/50....download starts at 100mbit, then drops down within a second or so to 50.

And then Youtube un-useable....but working fine over normal Vodacom 4G.

I see the route to google is drastically shorter now, Afrihost change ?

Morning,

We have not changed anything. Our direct peering and local caches was up with Google all the time. They have rerouted traffic since the night before yesterday after that brief outage and only rerouted traffic back locally since early this morning.

mine was changed last night but could barely get 8mbps and couldn't even get in to youtube :( same thing happened the night before :( checked this morning and looked fine so hopefully they sported it out

There was Google issues that was resolved early this morning. Let me know if it slows don again so we can have a look.

Getting the same.
At least the upload speed is increased. I suspect by the end of the weekend it will all be 100%

Hi,

I don't think I have your details. Please can you send me your clientzone email address via pm so I can have a look?

Can't get over the brief moment I was hitting 100 only for it to go back down lol, hopefully by the end of this weekend all will be well. Not that I'm in a rush, 50 definitely beats the 2mbps DSL I once had....it was dreadful, waited a week of non stop downloading to get BO3 >:(, now it takes a couple of hours.

Should be sorted now. ;)
